So I'm on my parents' laptop right now, and trying to listen to some tunes. Problem is that the sound is apparently screwed up. The sound is not muted, but sometimes it just decides it's not going to play. I have no idea what's going on. I restart the computer and sometimes that fixes the problem, sometimes it doesn't. And usually the sound only works for 10ish minutes and then decides it's going to stop working again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Go to device manager and re-install the audio drivers.

Control panel -> sound. What is set to the default device? Does it show that the device is still playing audio when the sound cuts out?

How old is the laptop? Sounds like it could be a heat/frayed wire issue.

There are also some viruses that will mute the sound. Next time you notice it, open the Control Panel and pull up the Sound controls. Check and see if the volume slider is pulled all the way down. Last, tell your dad to stop looking at porn sites.

Buy a new laptop. :detective
