Connecticut School Shooting

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd be interested in seeing the focus of the thread becoming how to prevent PEOPLE from doing this. I think that's where the actual solution lies.

The gun doesn't fire itself and healthy people don't fire the guns. How do you prevent the people from doing this?

This is just beyond ridiculous. Absolutely disgusting. I'm awaiting all the gun control talking points being brought up, but probably no one saying a thing about mental health. Just horrible to have to read about.

I agree.

And uh, welcome back?

AP reporting shooter's girlfriend and friend are missing in NJ, mother is dead.

On the issue of gun control, people always seem to focus on mass shooting while ignoring the continuous gun related deaths across the country.

The guy used a .223 caliber rifle....a gun that serves no purpose in the arms of a citizen. Yes, gun control should be talked about. After an incident like this, why shouldn't all possible causes/solutions be explored? More thorough background checks, etc. before selling someone a gun seems logical.

He had a .223 and left it in the car as far as I know.

At times like this, I refuse to get on a soapbox about my political views. Do I believe in gun control? Yes. Am I a supporter of conceal and carry? I'm not, but I understand the feelings of those who are who wish those teachers were armed today. What a fucking terrible tragedy.

I work for a living in politics currently, and I know a lot of people on this board are very opinionated, but I don't see the point of using this tragedy as a debate point right now. Sure, we all know that will happen in the coming days. Isn't it just okay that for one day every puts aside their disagreements and says "Wow, this is terrible, and we can all agree this never needs to happen again".

The person who was incorrectly linked by the media...will have reason to file a suit for some big money I would imagine.

A lot of news media was reporting it was this twitter as well... https://twitter.com/Ryan__Lanza

He's had some weird tweets in the past but you could tell it wasn't the same dude from the facebook that was linked.

This guy had mods added to the gun to make it an "assault rifle". It looks like a cool gun, but does a scope, a silencer, and a folding stock make a gun any more deadlier? I dont think so.

Can we maybe not refer to the murder weapon in this case as "cool?"

Just food for thought...

A lot of conflicting information flying around, but this report says it was the brother of the Ryan Lanza originally linked to this story:

The man identified in media reports Friday as the shooter in the deadliest school shooting in American history has told friends that he thinks his developmentally disabled brother may have committed the crime, Patch has learned.

A close friend of Ryan Lanza who would not be identified told Patch that he spoke to Lanza as Lanza made his way home from work to Hoboken. Lanza also took to his Facebook page to rail against CNN naming him as the suspect in the shooting in Newtown, Conn.

“I’m on the bus home now, it wasn’t me,” Lanza wrote.

Lanza’s mother, Nancy, a school teacher, is believed to be among the dead. More than 30 individuals, including 18 students, are believed to have died in the mass shooting.

Patch was among the media outlets to highlight and link to reports naming Lanza as the alleged shooter. Police haven't yet officially confirmed the identity of the gunman.

It is believed that the .223 was not used as a murder weapon, so try again. Nor is it known that the .223 was modded to an actual AR. The media just named the wrong guy as the shooter.
