Corey Coleman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Josh Gordon's pea brain can learn a route tree coming out of Baylor, I think Coleman can lock it down pretty quickly.

I love what the Browns did to get to #15. Watching the board unfold 3-7 I knew the best option was to trade down and what they got for #8 floored me. That being said, I don't love the pick but I will live with it and hope Jackson can turn this guy into a player. Coleman does not have the size we are looking for nor the experience running NFL routes. That is very concerning. I will get over the size because we as fans get stuck on how the team looks RIGHT NOW and they may look very different come next year at the position. Maybe Gabriel is cut and Andrew Hawkins retires. At that point, we aren't so diminutive at the position any longer.

I would have preferred Treadwell but I see the appeal to this kid. I like the fact that PFF has him as their best WR and more importantly the best WR to create space. Even though I would't have made this selection, I don't think it is bad. Even if Coleman doesn't live up to expectations I feel like he's going to be a rich man's Benjamin. If he lives up to expectations I've heard Antonio Brown and Steve Smith's name tossed around.

The route tree would bother me more if Coleman didn't have elite explosiveness out of breaks.

Treadwell and Doctson have a similar hurdle to climb as well. They weren't exactly running pro route trees at their respective schools.

I'd put Coleman on a plane and make him train with Andrew Hawkins for the next three months until training camp, he's the perfect mentor for Coleman.

Footwork is one of the things us Toledo Rockets are masters at.

What does Corey Colemans's addition mean to our group of existing WR's ? Would you cut someone ? Is WR still a need for us ?

I wouldn't mind adding one more WR at some point this draft.

I think right now you're looking at these 5 WRs making the roster for sure

Coleman
Hawkins
Hartline
Gabriel
Pryor as a developmental.

If they add one more WR I'd consider Pryor a 3rd WR just because he is a project still. I don't think they add two more but hey what do I know?

Don't see any way in which Gabriel makes this roster, short of injury.

since I first read the Steve Smith comparison I can't get it out of my head. If you take a poor angle on him as a DB on a screen you better hope you have safety help because he will blow right past you.

The corner literally took one misstep and it's gg. You're not catching him. A 3 yard pass turns into a 33 yard TD.

He has that elite change of direction speed and quickness that Smith has, but the thing that reminds me most of Smith is how he plays. The term 'plays bigger than he is' has been thrown around a lot and it couldn't be more accurate. Same thing with Smith. They will still (somehow) win jump balls. They can still pluck the ball out of the air. They can still bull you over. And they are both tough ass dudes

That is about as Steve Smith as it gets

Admittedly, I did not watch any film of this guy because I was too busy trying to subside my hard on for Goff (still convinced he'll be a top 10 QB). After watching a few game tapes on Draftbreakdown, holy fucking shit...

The athleticism is off the charts ridiculous. He is a true play maker with the ball in his hands and beats CB's off the line with incredible twitch reflexes. He tracks the ball incredibly in the air, reminding me of Desean Jackson on deep balls. You can tell cornerbacks are afraid of this guy because of the threat he possesses of beating them deep, then the sudden movements in hitches, and even slants. Competitiveness is a subjective attribute, especially when trying to evaluate it on film. However, he is constantly jawing with opposing CB's, laying out big blocks, and just looks like he has that fire in him.

He has some work obviously in learning new routes, not taking plays off or showing the play's hand (half ass effort on run plays at times), and consistent blocking. He can also use some refinement in his technique of catching certain passes with his hands, but he's certainly not Greg Little.

Overall, I am loving this kid and can't wait to see Hue's vision on how he will be used. I liked Treadwell the best going into the draft (he has fantastic hands and truly attacks the ball), but I can see why we took this kid and am completely behind the pick.

A side note for my personal hype train: If (huuuuge if) Josh Gordon can finally get his head on straight...RGIII, Gordon, Coleman, Barnidge, and Duke Johnson could actually become a dynamic offense.

Just to note, Briles tells his recievers to take a play off at times when it isnt designed for them.

Just more reasons why that offense is nuts
