COUNTER STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
lol. honestly I havent played GO. Kind of want to. Because CS back in the day was so fucking good as I covered already. But I feel like I'd never successfully achieve the same feeling, capture the nostalgia, etc.,

Well, I have played counter-strike off and on since beta 3 or 4 which was the year 2000. Essentially they have captured the old cs feel with updates graphics while adding a few new elements. Cs always had a fantastic formula, and no game is yet to duplicate its gun mechanics successfully.

I don't think you should or shouldn't play something based on whether it would live up to how you remember it.

I struggle to play a fps in today's day that doesn't allow ADS. Feels archaic. I think it's cool that an 'old' game still dominates its genre when it comes to esports, but I think that's also a bad sign that competitive gaming, from an fps perspective, hasn't gone and isn't going anywhere at all.

Game looks very skill/teamwork intensive, which is great IMO, but I don't think I could put the time into getting good at it. The graphics are bad enough to keep me away, and it feels old. I feel the same way about Starcraft.

To me 1.6 was the game of all time for FPS. It was the only one I tried to get good at and was on a clan and such. However the game is still fun but it will never be what the old community was. My youth was this game or the 1.6 version. The hacks and aim bots even clam members used... the AWP damn the memories.

A couple of the guns have ads, the sg and the aug. the scopes are very situational, and shouldn't be used as a crutch, or you will get owned. You would use it by scoping before peeking a corner. If you see a guy then decide to go ads, you would be killed by any decent player because it is too slow, and your gun is accurate outside of ads. Provided of course you know how to manipulate the spray pattern of your gun.

Ads goes as far back as goldeneye, so I don't think archaic would be the right word to describe it, and those two guns with ads options have been in the game since at least beta 6; which was around 2001 or so. It's really just a design choice and a hallmark of cs.

Cs is very much a skill game. That video I posted can get you started really quick though. A lot of people don't know how to properly shoot the guns on the public matches. You will have to get use to the buying interface, but it's simple enough.

You can easily hop in the game for a quick run. There is deathmatch to work on your aim and to test out all the guns. Gun game originated from cs and is officially supported in this game. I don't play competitively at the moment.

The graphics aren't that bad either. It's at least on the level that cod has been putting out for years.

This game was terrible on release but after a couple years of updates it has really started to shine. This is my go-to FPS right now. Haven't played it since Witcher 3 came out but I was SMFC before that.

Anyone know why it's so much easier to rank up now? I hadn't played since February and was MGE (deranked to MG1 and rage quit for 6 months lol). I find it weird that after a 6 month break I could easily rank up to LE (close to LEM now I think). I'm guessing it's due to less smurfs and hackers from the rank 3 requirement for competitive...? I have a steam friend who was stuck at MGE/DMG for a while and now he's Supreme. Seems like LE is the new MGE.

They have largely eliminated the cheaters. I just got global yesterday because of it. Since i've started playing again I've probably played maybe 15-20 matchmakes and only gotten cheaters twice. Once on my team and once the opposing team. They really need to add higher ranks than Global or add a Ladder system to Global because I have some people I know who are Global but definitely shouldn't be.

I don't think adding more ranks is the answer. The skill level for each rank will probably fix itself over time.

@Ren @NtG

I never played much competitive before. I have been playing cs pretty casual since 2000. I was briefly in a clan back in like 2002. I guess I don't like not being able to leave whenever I feel like or having some random guys on your team being able to fuck your game over. My gf is back playing though; she use to play in a pretty popular all girl cs clan. Fans were sending dick pics and shit.

Anyway, I have no rank, so I have to queue up solo in these bullshit matches to get a rank to play with her and a few of her former mates.

My ability to just be able to flat out kill people can carry me, but my team play really sucks. I don't know all the names of the call outs (nobody ever bothered with that shit in server hops). You can only win 2 matches a day while you're waiting to get ranked; which is pretty weak. I have to win 5 more matches to get a rank.

I was playing these dudes below, and man that other team was a joke. We ran all bisons that last few rounds. That clan right there was trying out some dude and they kicked him halfway through the game. They were all bad, so it wasn't like he could have been holding them down too much.

in between these cooldowns i've been using casual to work on my awp. You use to be able to quickscope in old cs and source. The blur has made it much harder to do so. I use to like hopping out from cover and doing quick scopes, but now you really need to position yourself correctly and can't just hop quick shot, get a kill and cover. That change is probably for the better because even with that big nerf the awp is just devastating in the right hands.

I'm curious where the ranking will put me. The master guardian elite guys aren't really that good, but they at least know all the call outs.

What's your win/loss total so far in your competitive matches? If you win 7 or 8 out of your 10 you will be placed somewhere near Legendary Eagle probably. Your individual stats matter too (how many MVP's you get, K/D ratio etc) but it seems like you do well in your bracket. As you win more and more of your placement games you will get put in higher skill group. If you just did that MGE group you will probably be put in a higher skill group for your next placement, If you win that one it will put you in a higher one and so forth.

If you're storming through these matches than you will probably end up some Badge(not sure the name of that) or Eagle.

The awp nerf is disheartening but it's been this way the entirety of CS:GO so I don't even notice the lack of quick-scoping anymore. They made it slighty better with a recent patch but it's still not very reliable. Honestly if they're within 10 feet I just go for the no-scope and hope the RNG gods are with me. Typically on an encounter like that I would have some type of escape plan or it's a last ditch effort sort of thing.

Hope you're enjoying CS:GO because it's a really good game that carries on the tradition of the CS game, which Source failed to do.

Edit: Also, you can queue up with your friends as long as you have a full 5 man group going. Otherwise it's solo queue until you're ranked. If you need an extra player you can add me: http://steamcommunity.com/id/ren04 . Just heads up I'm Global and me being in your group will cause you to get queue'd against higher ranked players. I should start a smurf...

They changed the awp so it takes a little bit after you zoom before it becomes 100% accurate (can't think of the word for it right now). You can still quickscope, but you can't do it while the gun is still in the process of zooming. It's not just the blur that is messing you up, it's coded into the game for it to be inaccurate.

I haven't played competitive in a while. When I do play now I just hop in a deathmatch and wreck everyone.

Let's see, I lost 1 game, tied the next and won the next two. I've been a killing machine in every game they placed me in. I had 37 kills on the match I tied. One game my scoreboard was broken, so I have no idea how I did. When I pressed tab it would only enlarge the map, but not show the score. It kept doing that till i rebooted the game.

Another gun that got nerfed even more was the deagle. That thing was ridiculous in 1.6 and source. Now you have to stand still while firing it. I have gotten pretty good at it using in deathmath, but haven't tried it in a real game.

I could see it being useful if you want to save some funds, and still want something vs armor and with some range. In pistol rounds it is worthless though.
