Dan Gilbert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thank you Dan Gilbert, for making all of this possible. Is October here yet?

The Justice Department is suing Quicken Loans over their mortgage practices. Dan Gilbert keeps throwing around money like this they might start wondering about embezzlement as well.

So, I was wondering if we should pass around a collection plate and help Dan out with the massive expenses that are about to come up? Or should we start a fundraiser or charity to the cause of finding the cure for the Cleveland curse because it has affected so many lives for so long.

I think if every Cavs fan pitched in 10 dollars that we could help cover his tax bill for the year :chuckle:

What we should do for him is get the Cavaliers to be considered a not for profit charitable organization. The entire purpose of a charitable organization is to help the poor, in this case the poor souls of NEO, who haven't seen a title in over 50 years.

That way the tax bill would be a write off for him. But if it comes to it, and you guys seriously want to send DG some money, i'll chip in for sure.

I will not be sending any money to one of the richest men in America, who is profiting from the expenditures he's putting into his business.

That's asinine.

I will watch his team, however, which will have the same effect. I would also donate to charities he endorsed if I believed in the cause.

I'm glad you took the joke well.

I am using Quicken Loans for my mortgage for the rest of my life. Additionally, I promise to go to the Cleveland Casino 2 times per year (live in cbus) for the rest of my life.

Dan Gilbert makes an astronomical amount of money in terms of what we can all comprehend and relate to.

But by no means is he the richest owner in the NBA.

Paul Allen(Blazers), Rich Devos(Magic), Stan Kroenke(Nuggets), and Mickey Arison(Heat) all have more net wealth than him(I don't count Prokhorov because he is Russian and crazy)

There are several other NBA owners who are close to Gilbert in net worth.

So yes lets appreciate that LeBron made this all possible with his return. We should never forget that. But those other 4 owners who have a higher net worth than Gilbert all had teams that either made it to/won the Finals at one time or another during their ownership or franchise players considered to be top 5 in the game(Melo, Howard, Shaq, the Heats Big 3)

And none of them, have ever authorized this type of spending in the luxury tax era to keep their roster intact and to add to it. Ever.

So this doesn't guarantee anything and none of us personally owe Gilbert anything, but lets appreciate the hell out of what he is doing because it truly is unprecedented.

He deserves a trophy as much as, if not more than, the fan base and every single player on the team.

He's a true champion of an owner already, honestly. It's amazing what he's been willing to do for this franchise financially. In good and bad times(trading for Baron Davis' contract for the chance to get a lottery pick that got us Kyrie Irving is almost more impressive than his upcoming luxury tax bill because we were heading for 25 wins and he could have EASILY justified opting to save money and just use our own draft pick(which ended up being TT at #4) to add talent.

I know DG is majority owner, but does anyone know what percentage he has? In thinking these insane tax bills through, it occurred to me that he might have minority owners who are hesitant to spend so liberally. Corporate structures are not dictatorships, so it would be interesting to find out more information.

It's called trickle down bro. The Moe money Dan has, the Moe money we will have.

Do you even economics?

This is a great, great point.

Some identified owners who had more money than Gilbert but weren't as willing to spend. I imagine this may have something to do with it.

I am thankful for an owner who appears to have the foresight to plan out his team's revenue streams, cap future, and total earnings and determinedhe can afford (or maybe needs to afford) to keep this together. IF they have a plan... that remains to be seen. Could just be a short term leverage, truely going 'all in' while hoping a title comes out of it and makes it successful.

Dan Gilbert owns about 72% of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
