Dan Gilbert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have thought for a while that Griffin is slightly above average. That slightly is skewed by the amount of GMs in the NBA that are just unreasonably bad

Guys, Griffin started with a lot of fucking assets. He was only ever cost checked on Delly and we don't know how much of that was on him.

I was in favor of keeping Griffin because I've seen some really fucking bad GMs and I know at least Griffin would never be that. But he also burned through a shit ton of assets on questionable moves.

I'm not giving him credit for the throw in of JR Smith. That trade was for Iman Shumpert. And Shump fucking blows. He gave us a good year, but he is just so bad now that it wasn't a good return.

2 firsts for Mozgov was a bit much in hindsight.

The Korver trade IMO was pretty bad. He didn't help at all against the 1 team that mattered and that first rounder was basically out last non big 3 meaningful (non Cedi too I guess) asset

He went into the season with 2 players on the roster capable of guarding Kevin Durant. LeBron James and Richard Jefferson. That ended about as predictably bad as everyone on this board said it would.

He just gives 0 shits about defense and we ended up being a horrible defensive team when we needed it most. Like I said he isn't a bad GM, but I also wouldn't call him a good one. He was handed about the best possible hand that you can get. If Kyrie doesn't hit that shot in game 7 and LeBron and Kyrie don't ascend into another galaxy Griffin probably isn't even here this year.

I know everyone wants to kill Dan over it. I really don't think they should.

this is a legit set of arguments but it's the timing that's fucked up.

I will agree with Gilbert on this one. The super teams that were devised by FA and trades don't last long. There is a small window that those teams are competitive and stay together.

Look at the teams that didn't build directly through FA and trading their assets away. Gilbert was caught the first time LeBron left with an old roster of nobodies Also where was the contribution from the bench? The Warriors lost Bogut and Festus and Speights and still had enough to get some decent bench players, Zaza who can start and KD via cap space. The point would be to add to the current starters we have on the team not subtract from it.

Paul George is probably nothing more than a rental player so I wouldn't trade Love for him. Butler is the more intriguing option. The question is with Butler minus Love are we good enough to beat the Warriors? I would still say no.

Think about this Lebron and his agency had the Cavs over pay for Tristan, over pay for JR Smith. Are these reliable constant players? The buyout of Deron Williams didn't work out. We still needed a play maker.

And yet with this talent on the team we still couldn't win a game with LeBron sitting.

We need to build a team. Lebron should be just a part of that team.

David Griffin wasn't fired, he quit

Who even knows who was right in this situation. It was a team direction argument.

Can't blame Gilbert till we know what they were mad about

I'd b mad if griff spent all my money to build a team just like the Nash Suns he helped build. Then they played no go damn defense after that.

Look how bad the defense got when griff brought in longabardi from the Suns. Blatt w Lue running the defense was very decent. Then longabardi comes in and it goes to shit leading into 15/16 playoffs. Lue takes back over in post season and we win.

Griff should go work in Houston if he wants to keep building Nash suns

Here's what I want to know; what is Dan's mindset? Is it championship or bust, OR, get to the playoffs every year regardless if LBJ is here or not?
Everyone discusses how LBJ felt after he left and the letter, but Dan was left in complete shambles in regard to the franchise. If he believes LBJ is leaving, he isn't going to be that willing to cough up a great trade piece for rebuilding purposes in KL for a one year rental and LBJ bolting town.
I really like PG and Butler, but was leaning towards acquiring Melo without giving up one of the BIG 3; that way if LBJ bolts, the Cavs aren't left in a 10 year wasteland. They'll have tradeable assets in KL and KI and will be able to jump start a rebuild.
The Butler deal is the safer move if they give up KL because at least he's under contract for 2 years and hasn't stated he's going to LA in a year. If this is what Dan prefers, he's looking longer term rather than just next year.
And for the record, I was never overly impressed with Griff; LBJ fell in his lap. After that, his moves were so so. If JR didn't pan out (remember he was the throw in), the NYK trade would have been a disaster.

The best draft in CAVS history occurred with no GM. 1986 Dough boy Daugherty Ron Harper Mark Price and a reprieve on Hot Rod

We stayed away from Len Bias and Chris Washburn who I wanted.

Gilbert is really close to pissed of LeBron. And when this happen he will lose LeBron and Kyrie. Then he will stay with Tristan Thompson as a first scorer on this team.

Gilbert is worried lbj will leave and is scared of the future

Griffins job was to win now and didn't give two shits about future. He's about winning titles

Gilbert is worried for the future therefore had to let him go

Such a shitty situaiton

Give the guy a break...He's spent beyond any owner in the history of the NBA and brought the city a title...he gets a pass in my book
Preaching to the choir here. I'm as big a Gilbert supporter as there is. But even I don't think he'll never sell the team. Unless he hands it down to new partners (Dan's son and Lebron who are secret besties).:chuckle:
