Dan Gilbert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not that it's Cavs related, but Dan Gilbert is getting renewed local love from some Cleveland (and I assume, Detroit) business types after this whole Amazon HQ2 fiasco.

Dan is looking like a saint compared to Bezos and the moves Amazon pulled over on all the Midwest cities on their 'prospective' list. Say what you want about that guy as a team owner, but his wallet has always been open for Cleveland, in more ways than one

Here's a good article about it from a Detroit perspective

You really comparing Pat Riley to the stiffs Dan hired ? Pat was not even close to being a rookie
Shitty bad weeded cavsfantown resurfaces... needs another ban

I give my wife hell for watching those horrible Lifetime movies and garbage reality shows....then I look in the mirror and I'm glued to the childish drama of this team.

I thought it came with LeBron...yet here we are still going. The only constant is ownership.
No. It’s the old guard. Jr. tt. Got to go. Korver. Hill as well

It’s Dan Gilbert, It was always Dan Gilbert & it will always be Dan Gilbert, He was & is the source of the dysfunction since the day he became Majority owner in 2005, The sooner he sells the team the better, for all Cavs fans.

If Dan found a GM he trusted, and if he let them run the team, we’d be in a great situation.

Dan is also the reason LBJ came back. Miami tried to nickel and dime LeBron, and so he came back to Gilbert. And it won us a championship.

That said, if Dan doesn’t clean up this mess soon, I’ll be joining the blame Dan bandwagon with everyone else. But I’m not willing to trash Dan just yet.

Do you know what’s worse than a small market team with Dan as an owner? A small market team with a CHEAP owner. Don’t kid yourselves, things could be much worse.

The root of the problem isn't Gilbert but the structure of the NBA and how the players/CBA give so much power to the players vs the team.

In the NFL TT, JR, and Hill would never get those kind of contracts. It would have multiple option years and clauses for the team to get out of it. A team has no choice but to put up with disfunction because the all important expiring contracts. If we could cut guys as easily as the NFL then the expiring wouldn't mean anything. Rollover cap also helps the NFL vs the NBA.

The wizards are caught in a hard place right now because of contract structures and disfunction in the team. Wall is so hard to trade with a 42 million per year supermax that has a 15% trade kicker. Who has the cap to take on 48 million of Wall and then willing to give up assets too. They will have to shop the younger players in Porter and Beal even if they might actually be better off keeping them vs Wall.

Can’t like this enough. I would rather have a big spender that is probably over involved than be like okc and blow up an insane roster over money.

While I agree with you, I'll say something I doubt anyone will agree with on me.
I think the key was Griffin..although I have my critical thoughts on him, it was premature to let that guy walk at that particular moment.
He was working on something(s) in terms of trades and I would wanted to see how he was going to handle the Irving mess.
I don't know why...but Altman reminds me of Sashi Brown..

I don’t think anyone would disagree with you on that. I think most posters loved griffin and they probably should have kept him. That being said who knows what was going on behind the scene.

Griffin was good until we won the championship, he should not have fired Blatt, should not have signed TT to that insane contract, also traded some of our picks away for players who dropped out of rotation. He sacrificed way too much of our defense and good lord why the hell did he give JR such a long and lucrative contract??? Nobody else was gonna sign him to even close to that much money there was no reason for that move and screwed us over big time.
