Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

Gibson has value as a shooter, defender, and has partially guaranteed contract until January. He's got some value in the trade market.

Gibson will likely get some attractive offers from contenders in the off season that will be hard to pass up, especially if he falls down in the rotation here. It doesn't make sense to keep him here until he leaves for nothing.

So like what happened with Sessions last summer, it seem very possible that he'll get traded this year. I think it's more likely that it's going to happen later in the season than before camp. Later in the season is when teams start tossing all their chips in or folding and going home. Gibson's contract could help teams in either situation.
Also knowing he's a bit injury prone if they are serious in trying to get something for him, they'll try to keep him healthy..(which will be hard) but we may see a lot of him early on,unless there is no offense coming from anyone.

FWIW, Boobie admits cheating on Keyshia before marriage.. Keyshia says she loves living in Cleveland because of the seasons.. Boobie laughs off the thought of demanding a trade.. says he loves Cleveland.

I think the guy has said that he was afraid of leaving texas in the past, but from the love he got from the Fan he'll always consider this his second home. Not like he was playing to the crowd, or a Contract year. Said repeatedly.

That said IMO, why would you trade Gibson? He has done as asked. His feet have gotten in the way.

He isn't a "spot up guy" he is a sniper. The problem is when Jamison is your number one option you're not going to get the kind of space chalmers has, and Gibson (at least two years ago led the league in missed lay-ups). I'd like to see him healthy. I think in 09-10 he was like .480 from 3pt%, who the hell cares about the All star weekend? When in games he is making almost 1/2?

And it was no fluke how he played against the Pistons. Imagine if he had someone who got doubled and kicked out to him? You just saw how Chalmers, Miller can be. Gibson is better than both. And he has accepted his role. He deserves to be a CAV, or leave. But if we make him leave, it would be idiotic and won't happen unless for something good. Who is going to come off the bench cold when we need a 3 if we become a 4 seed in two or so years? Lock down on D? Be Competent at the ball (esp if he works on dribbling with his off-hand).

He will not be traded. Unless it is for something. We are not shopping him, until we see what we have in real games, anything else is tentative. It would be bad business, not just fan-wise, but we don't know what we are giving away.

It was a fluke, it's just a repeatable fluke. The Pistons weren't prepared to defend LeISO without Larry and Ben, and OKC wasn't prepared to defend the Heat. They had the athletes, but lacked the plan and preparation.

Define what a fluke is? He hasn't scored 30 points since that game, and has 12 20 point games in the last 5 seasons combined. He's a role player scrub on a team that is so awful that it doesn't need role players.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

He's not the same as he used to be. The Daniel Gibson of a few years ago is different than the one we have today. He was a young energetic single kid that would do anything the team asked of him...basketball was his life. Now he's married, has a family and a reality show. His wife calls most of the shots and he has a lot of other commitments. Does that make him a bad guy? No. Just pointing out that his family and business have jumped ahead of basketball on his priorities list. Instead of him living in the practice facility, he's just not as accessible as he used to be. I'm not saying he's not working out on his own, maybe he is, i have no idea. But the old Daniel would have been working with our trainers and coaches after practices, on off-days, during the summers...almost year round...this one doesn't.

Factor in that he's a good bet to miss a quarter of every season and has a very attractive contract to other teams. In my opinion, he will be moved as the trade deadline approaches.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

Didn't want to start a new thread....

Gibson wants to stay in Cleveland long enough to set records

ATLANTA: Daniel Gibson is thrilled to be moving his way up the line in Cavaliers’ 3-point shooting history. But in order to reach the top, he’s going to need a lot more time.

“That’s going to take another contract with more years,” Gibson said with a chuckle Friday. “But I’m game. I would love to be here for my entire time and then see where I finish up.”

Despite battling a sore right elbow, Gibson entered the game Friday against the Hawks fourth on the Cavs’ all-time 3-point list with 544. He’s only six shy of Wes Person for third place, but then he’s going to need a few years to crack the top two. LeBron James is second in Cavs history with 771 3-pointers, and Mark Price remains the all-time leader with 802.

“It means a lot because the whole time has been in Cleveland,” Gibson said. “I just feel like I’m becoming part of the Cleveland history, and to me, that’s what it’s all about. It’s that longevity and being with that one team and building something there. I appreciate that.”

Now in his seventh season, Gibson is in the final year of his contract. He is making about $4.8 million this season and there certainly seems to at least be an avenue for a return — Cavs coach Byron Scott has long considered Gibson one of his best perimeter defenders and he’s usually one of the most consistent 3-point shooters on the team. Not to mention, the Cavs only have six players under guaranteed contracts for next season.

“I’d love to be here for my entire career,” he said. “I love it here. I’m a loyal guy, I’ve always been a loyal guy. If you’re going to smile when it’s going good, you’ve got to be able to go through it when it’s going bad. It means more to you if you’re able to go through the bad and get back to the good. That’ll be the most exciting part of it all. I definitely want to see it all the way through.”

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I'm probably in the minority opinion on this, but as long as the price is right, I say let him stay as long as he likes.

I tend to agree. If nothing else he's a decent bench guy who can come in and knock down some threes.

I agree. It never hurts to have someone who can come off the bench, play decent defense, and stretch the opposing D. Plus he has extensive playoff experience. Besides, I don't think he'd return much of value in a trade.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

You don't win without a bench in the NBA and Boobie has shown he is a consistent role player who does a lot of positive things for our team. I've said it before and i'll say it again, he's the kind of role player you win championships with and those kind of guys are always welcome on my team.

If you trade him, it should be to seriously upgrade the team longterm and not just to add another pick. (part of a package deal)

Exactly. Gilbert and Grant are trying to build a certain type of culture here, and Boobie appears to fit the mold PERFECTLY: Consistent effort on defense, good shooter who stretches the floor, a consummate team guy, provides veteran leadership to our young players, and he actually WANTS TO BE HERE. Yeah, you'd like him to be 3 inches taller, but seriously... "what's not to like?"

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I'd like to see Gibson stick around. Seeing him in a different jersey would be as weird to me as when I saw Sandy Alomar in a White Sox jersey.

Re: Cavs looking to trade Daniel Gibson?

I always thought Eric Snow was a nice piece to have. You could put him in late game when you needed a defensive stop.

The nice thing about Boobie is that he is a pretty good spot up shooter. Eric Snow was a black hole on offense.
