After the season when Boobie's a FA, I wouldn't have a problem just moving on and letting him move on. Can't stay healthy and has become very streaky. Wouldn't be opposed to still bringing him back but only for what the Cavs are willing to offer in years and money. You don't invest much in him at this point.
If you're going to spend some money on a veteran G, I'd rather see the Cavs go after Jarrett Jack who would bring more of a true PG and is a FA after the season.

Boobie loves Cleveland, and that is rare for someone that isn't from here.
Say what you want about him, but you cant knock the guy's passion for this place.
I wouldn't want to see the Cavs trade him.

I don't see Gibson bringing us back a #1 in a trade, but perhaps he could get us a young player that's rotting on a contender's bench along with some filler.

It all depends on supply & demand, and there's usually some almost decent players waived or bought out after the trade deadline.

I don't see Gibson bringing us back a #1 in a trade, but perhaps he could get us a young player that's rotting on a contender's bench along with some filler.

It all depends on supply & demand, and there's usually some almost decent players waived or bought out after the trade deadline.

If that is all you think we can get, doesn't make much sense to trade him. I certainly don't want some contender's 2nd round pick either. Better to just keep him around and offer him a contract at a rate that matches his present production and missing games.

And then he'd walk. He makes almost 5 million now, which if we're being honest with ourselves, is a tad pricey for what little he brings to this current team. He's not gonna take a paycut to stay here if he gets a better offer elsewhere on a team that can contend.

The other problem is demand for 3 point shooters off the bench. You think a team like the Lakers couldnt use him? What if one of the Texas teams near his home town come calling? Grant has a player on an expiring contract who would be valuable to a contender for his one outstanding skill, especially in the playoffs. The perfect rented gun off the bench.

Besides, when it comes to re-signing guys like Gibson and Varejao, I still dont know where this random, infallible confidence comes from, but neither of these guys are close to a guarantee to re-up here. In fact, barring one hell of a turnaround, I think the needle is pointing the other way. And before anyone starts hurling quotes from Gibson about wanting to stay here, let me remind you they all say that (to drum up fan support for their next contract negotiation) until they actually become a FA, at which point their agent gets in their ear with offers from other teams, their Whitney Houston wanna-be wife starts Googling condos in LA...

That sounds great. Then, we should be able to get something substantial for him, right? You said he should be in demand. If you get offered crap, you might as well let it play out as it does. Remember, at the worst, he is still a 5 million dollar expiring for them.

If you can get a high 2nd rounder and then some, that is acceptable.

Why would him being drafted as a 2nd rounder matter? His value to another team is what type of player he is now...not where he was drafted.

The position a player was drafted becomes meaningless when they start playing.

I don't want Boobie or Andy going anywhere unless we get that offer that would make us look completely stupid to pass up.

They're both Cavaliers. I want them to stay that way.

This attitude is getting old. I love those two guys, but if we can get young talent or a pick that could turn into something down the road, you do it. Obviously no one is suggesting that we trade these guys just for shits and giggles...but we should absolutely be looking for any deal that will help this team moving forward.

And honestly, Boobie and Andy do love Cleveland, but I doubt they'd be heart broken if we traded them to winning teams.

Hopefully Grant doesn't have the "They're Cavaliers for life!!" attitude.

He won't take some paycut, but the contenders can offer him the MLE, and we can offer him more. If he's serious about staying in Cleveland then the money won't be the problem.

The Lakers could absolutely use him. Unfortunately for the Lakers they have no legitimate assets to trade... Jordan Hill, and Jamison top their asset list lol. If there is protection on their pick (which I still haven't heard definitively either way) then they could lessen the protection on it, but other than that I don't see too much value.

If Boobie wants to stay here, and we can't get a good package for him then let it play out in free agency. If we can get something of real value then I hope we trade him. As for where the faith comes from, it really is as simple as saying he has said numerous times he wants to play his entire career here. If he is serious about that so be it, if not he's only a fan favourite, not a franchise player.

Again, stop saying that. Start saying "let him walk" b/c that's exactly what will happen. Unless you want to pay $5-7 mil a year for a specialist. Only contenders with bona fide starting lineups should spend for bench luxuries like him, not rebuilding teams like the Cavs.

The contenders can offer him 3ish million, or the mini MLE, we could offer him 4 million, and beat them out. I don't think you understand that for some reason, but the MLE is not the same as it used to be. If he wants to walk let him walk he's not worth more than 4 million tbh.
