I find it interesting, in a good way, that Blatt is taking this opportunity to observe NBA players, meet coaches, take notes. I assume he doesn't have any formal role at the Team USA sessions but instead is allowed to come as a favor to NBA teams.

He mentioned in the interview how he'll be relying on his assistants and singled out Lue, but didn't mention any of the other coaches by name. Still wondering if any (or how many) of those spots are up in the air. Phil Handy is traveling this summer with the Canadian national team on a European tour but would be back in time for camp.

Was this on nba tv today? I'm going to vegas in like a week. Wish I would have been down there while all this is going on.

Didn't see anything on YouTube for blatt.

Look upthread at post #445.

Blatt joked that he was spying on the USA team in case he was hired again to coach the Russian team, but I think it's more about getting comfortable for this fall and probably spending some time with Irving/Waiters.

I love Blatt already even if freaking highlights from a summer league team the Offense looked better than what Brown ran or didn't run last year. If he can get that group of guys to play well then count me in. Also he getting to learn and know as much as he can and is really working hard to be a coach that helped LeBron and the Cavs to bring the unheard of here.

I also wonder if he's had the opportunity to see a lot of these star players that he's going to be coaching against next year this close in practice situations...

I just find his charisma so absorbing. Seems to really be able to project his personality on anyone he crosses paths with. All signs are pointing to him not only being an influential basketball figure, but a pretty incredible human being as well which, if I'm not mistaken, plays just as a significant role in any successful team.

Right and with LeBron and Lue if he does not come out of the NBA as a legendary coach I will be shocked.

But do we have the cap space for Grant Hill and Smitty?
I liked how he recruited them to join the team
Very exciting time...

I'd actually be interested in watching some old Olympic games of his teams vs team USA to see his style and how he handled some of our best players.

I saw a bunch of timeout compilations and interviews on youtube, anyone have an idea of where to look for game footage to see his style in place against NBA players?

Here you go, not vs team USA but these are some of Blatt's highlight games of his career.
In all of them he was the underdog, playing vs NBA caliber or real NBA players.

I've seen some of the interviews and Blatt impresses me. He strikes me as the type of person that is probably at the USA practices for multiple reasons. He comes off like he's there just taking in the sites maybe taking a few notes but I picture him taking away much more than he's letting on.

I think he's there for Kyrie and Dion and to scout the other players and probably even coaches there. He also strikes me as the type of coach that is always looking to improve so he's probably learning from how the coaches interact with the high profile players. If everything pans out, he's going to end up with 3 team USA players so seeing how Coach K works to convince a team full of stars to play different roles may be useful.

I hope David Blatt's defensive tendencies trump that of his highly coveted offensive. With players like Irving, Love & James, the offense could almost run without coordination. Not that that's preferable, but hypothetically.

Really anxious to see some improvement in our ability to guard. Obviously LBJ automatically makes us better. But I'm still a little nervous about a how a Kevin Love inclusive Cavs team looks on the defensive end of the floor.
