FRIENDLY PSA:

Cavs now 7-0 since David Blatt cancelled practice for yoga.

A couple times you could tell he was really emotional when talking about the team, his family, and his journey.

So happy for him right now.

He clearly held back tears when he was talking about it. His eyes watered and he choked up a little.

It was awesome.

Let's not forget that, at least the way I read the situation, Blatt was literally one game away from being fired. Had we lost that game to the Lakers early in the season, I think there was a really, really good chance he was getting the ax. Just pretty interesting to think about how quickly fortunes can change.

I really don't think they would've fired him. At the very least they would've given him several more weeks to make the new pieces work. If they had continued to lose at the same rate they did with LeBron out and before the trades, then yes, Blatt's job would've been in danger. But that wasn't gonna happen, because a healthy LeBron is too good and the trades were a huge upgrade to the roster. And in any case, despite the ignorant media insisting on the "rookie coach" narrative, Griffin knows what Blatt has done before coming here and knows how good he is. Besides, who would he hire to replace Blatt? Mark Jackson?...

Ty Lue. That's where that whole thing was headed.

Ty Lue would have gotten the job but like you, I don't think he would have been fired in the first place unless the team completely cratered by February. I'm talking 10 games under .500 cratered. Blatt had Griff in his corner and in a way, Gilbert, too. You just can't make a change like that w/o welcoming a white heat of criticism, and I don't think the team would have survived in it's form. Griff would have probably quit, too.

But The Cavs are in the Finals, LeBron is LeBron, Blatt has outcoached 3 guys who the talking heads all said were his superior, the team has jelled and are like brothers etc.

I know there will be a new round of cheap shots from those in the National Media and some in the local Media; Skip Bayless was on twitter tonight sharpening his fangs already and I'm sure Jason Lloyd's (Hi Jason, we know you're reading!) Final Thoughts will tell us once again that Love's leaving and LeBron tried to get Blatt fired instead how this team is on the cusp of a title and a truly great, cathartic moment for Cleveland but you know what? Fuck 'em. They aren't going to spoil this ride for me.

And My God, what a ride it's been.
