.......

James called Blatt's offense unlike any other system he has run during his previous 11 seasons in the league. Love found it too radical, pleading for more traditional sets to be put into the mix so he could feel more comfortable.

Blatt has proved to be adaptable.

"We are doing some different things and I hope that it helps us," Blatt said. "But we've also tried to put in some things that are common, more common, to the guys and get them in a quick comfort zone, I like to call it. Because they've run these things before and they know what to do and how to take advantage of it."

......

Blatt is strapped in, readying himself for the turbulence that will surely come. "Some coaches even try to create [adversity] so as to prepare for the onset of the inevitable," Blatt said. "That's the world that we live in. I don't necessarily believe in creating things that aren't real, on the other hand I'm very cognizant of the fact that adversity is part of the growth process for any team and how you work on a daily basis and how you prepare guys mentally and emotionally is the manner in which you deal with it."

The expectations are to dominate, not just deal.

"We got a lot of work to do," Blatt said. "We are honestly a new team. There's going to be highs, there's going to be lows. We got to keep ourselves in proportion. We got to work hard and improve on a daily basis and not get ahead of ourselves. Just play the day in front of you."

Did love really did it too radical? I think he just wanted to post up more.

I bet he was scared of the 'revolution' that is the dribble weave

"Cleveland has the benefit of a healthy Anderson Varejao back in the lineup, one of the better paint protectors in the league."

Sure you did your research before making those statements, ESPN?

Varejao is a paint protector. He isn't a rim protector, but he does a good job of keeping guys out of the paint.

It's nice having a coach who is actually willing to adapt his offense to his personnel.

I agree wholeheartedly! I only wonder what kind of roadblocks he runs into... in team personality clashes, rotations & minutes, league wide player & team knowledge, etc. and how he adjusts to that stuff. Ohh and when Lebron or anyone else ignores a play he calls, how something like that will be handled.

kinda pisses me off that love is already complaining....

It doesn't sound like he was complaining. It sounded like he wanted the coach to implement some things that he was familiar with and Blatt did just that. It sounds like the coaches and players working together to better tailor the offense to the personnel, which is exactly what we've wanted for years. I don't think it's a bad thing for the star players on the team to want to have sets that get them into their comfort zone, especially if Blatt is willing to implement them, which he clearly is.

The Love thought it was too radical thing is just the writers take on Loves comments about wanting it in the post more early on. Nothing new.

Today's "David Blatt Quote of The Day" goes to:

When asked by Chris Haynes if this would be an emotional time for him, given that it's going to be his first coaching game in the NBA:

David Blatt - "I think this is about the Cleveland Cavaliers. About LeBron and Kevin and Kyrie and all our guys. Like I said I've been coaching for a long time and obviously this is my first NBA game and there is significance to that but I'm going to leave that on the back burner and help those guys to be the best team they can be."

Chris Haynes - "Can I get a real answer after the game?"

David Blatt - "Real answer? There are no real answers here! This is not a reality show! .. Okay. I'm excited as hell!!! Who wouldn't be!? There it is.. :chuckle:"

"How many people do you have here?"

"Me? 20,000. *Laughter*.. Man, I'm a Clevelander now. You know, I'm a loyal guy. Be true to your school, this is your school."

"How many came to see you? How many friends?"

"Oh, I don't know if anybody came to see me.. a few of my friends did, but, they're here to see the Cavs & I'm proud to say I'm part of that"

I absolutely love this guy.

Blatt didn't seem he has a good idea of what his rotations are going to be. Looks like he's feeling out his personal (didn't see much of Miller or Marion tonight).

A few things that stuck out to me was we didn't see a more defensive lineup at some point (i.e something like AV, Marion, Lebron, Delly, and Waiters)
Also odd as pointed out by others in the game thread was lack of pick and rolls involving Love: I thought the Lebron and Love PnR was going to be a staple of our offense.

Really found the 43 minutes that LeBron played to be rather strange, especially considering Blatt's emphasis on limiting his playing time and monitoring his progress during the week. Thoughts on this?

Could've been either playing him until he was out of his funk, testing his chemistry with each contingent on the floor or giving him the chance given the occasion.

Either way, 43 is a shit load of minutes for a game that doesn't head into overtime.
