My favorite was "Have you been to all three cities?"...

Um, so David you've coached all around the world, you speak four languages, yet you were born in the United States where you received an Ivy League education, have you ever been to Portland Oregon and are you worried you will be overwhelmed being in such a foreign city?

Well, Blatt is kind of a microphone whore... he loves it. And he's damn good at it.
The reporters really have a chance here to get some quality questions answered, which 'normal' coaches don't like to answer. They need a little more 'hutzpa'.

I don't understand the need for a media session after EVERY practice. I can understand before games to discuss game plans. It just seems like a burden but it comes with the job. How tiresome that must be for the players and coaching staff...

I like it personally. I understand it getting tiresome, but damn if they shouldn't ask him more specific questions or um... spend a couple minutes thinking about what to ask. Very little creativity in sports reporting.

I'll never understand how people who follow sports for a hobby exhibit greater critical-thinking skills about a particular team than the people whose JOB it is to gain insight.

I'd absolutely KILL to be a big-time sports reporter; to see them approach it so lazily makes me want to throw things.

It's too early to tell, but right now, his defense scheme is very Mike D'antoni-ish.

In Phoenix's most successful season under Mike D'antoni (2004-2005) they gave up 103.3 ppg and ranked dead last in the NBA. In no way does our defense as currently constructed (only 2 games in) even compare to that. Defenses take time to settle and build chemistry. To make such a statement this early into the season is outlandish.

It's too early to tell but you seem to like to make premature statements.

I do, but I usually make my statements based on player's habits and their past reputation. I think Blatt will do well and in time will become a good well-rounded coach, but I expect him to struggle a bit.

Bah

Congratulations for posting a sentence that includes a disclaimer, then goes right on to neglect the disclaimer with a blanket statement that has little meaning (as you yourself predicted in the same sentence) at this point of the season.

Impressive posting style. :chuckle:

It's tiresome to answer questions for six minutes daily about what you did that day?

It's the price you pay for being the center of the basketball universe, (for now). I'm sure there's not a presser after every 76ers practice.

Their defense was actually middle of the road of you adjust for pace

I'm not a huge fan of two things right now:
-the second unit only has one playmaker in Waiters and lack spacing (Really fail to see how an AV/TT/DW/Marion/Delly lineup is going to be able to score). Really should have one of the Lebron or Love in with these guys.

-the lack of Lebron/Love pick and rolls is baffling me to no end. These guys should fit like a lock and key with pick and rolls but right now they are trying to get Love the ball in the post or off the ball in the corner. Really frustrating with the focus being Irving as the primary playmaker as he still over dribbles like anything

The sooner that Blatt accepts that Kyrie isn't a great playmaking PG, the quicker the offense will start to look effective with LeBron running the show. Like i said, there's really nothing impressive about his defensive scheme thus far. The team only plays defense in spurts. There are communication, no help-side defense, etc, it's like they are just pretending to play defense and putting all of their energy on the offensive end.
