At this point he should give all control to the assistants until he learns to become one himself. Guy coach's like he's never been at least an assistant coach in the NBA.

He has been coaching for 20 years, Kidd and all other ex players are coaching.
he has more experience than most of the NBA coaches atm, it takes time.

Jesus H fucking Christ. The stupidity that thrives on this board sometimes is just amazing. David Blatt is 10 games into his first stint as a NBA head coach. Not only does he need to learn his own players and their strengths and weaknesses, but he has to learn all the other teams as well. Some of you people think just because he has Lebron /Love and Kyrie that its easy to be the head coach of the Cavs. Well, news flash, coaching a NBA team is not easy, no matter how much talent is on the team. He's gonna make mistakes, its a learning process. How about we give him half a season to figure this out before you run him outa town.

Maybe the players are not listening, but not wearing Joe Harris down by playing him for 20 minutes straight and then leaving him in for a crucial end of game defensive possession is something different. I know he's only 10 games in and he'll get better as the season goes along, but for whatever reason, his coaching has seemed far from flawless so far this season. Maybe the players would listen more if Blatt wasn't making as many head scratching decisions early in the season.

I'm actually going to reply to your comment to your reply seriously. If you think lebron knows more basketball than blatt you are delusional, david blatt's has been midas in the basketball world for the past 15 years, every team he coached won something sooner rather than later, its not a fluke that he is the first "european" coach entrusted with an nba team. regarding the coaching level in europe, if you think for one second that the coaching level there is lower than the NBA you simply don't know euroball, The NBA might have the best players but the best coaches are in europe, take Pop for example, he is actually stealing plays for the spurs from some known coaches in europe, he brought messina to be his assistant and some might say his successor. you think pop don't know basketball?!
the problem is more profound, in order to beat a well coached disciplined team you must have a well coached disciplined team, pop said it in an interview himself: " we only get players who are over themselves", and unfortunately I don't see how lebron fits in that category. and with all do respect and I have much respect for lebron, I think his baskeball IQ is way overrated, there is a tendency for people to praise him for things that he is not only because he is a great player.

just to make my argument clearer I'm not saying Blatt is mistake free, but any coach make mistakes. and the fact that he also have his learning curve is also apparent but I can assure you that once he gets command on this team and get his philosophy and tactics NBA tweaked the cavs will have a very special asset on their team. and hey it's not that they lost to a weak team, the spurs are the champs and rightfully so, they are playing together for ever now and it seems that they are the most disciplined team in the NBA, The cavs will get there eventually but they must give blatt the keys to the team like pop has, I know it's a weird thing to do without NBA accolades but I can assure you if they do it the trophies will come soon after.

I-77 brings up some very valid points, and others have countered that we're only 10 games in the season.

I think that people are deliberating talking past one another so that they don't have to address either the criticisms being made or the praise being offered.

But with that said, we should explore some of the questionable decisions Blatt has made since the start of the season. No one is above criticism, and I think his rotations and usage of timeouts are really .. amateurish .. for lack of a better word.

Definition of an Amateur : "a person inexperienced or unskilled in a particular activity." David Blatt as an NBA Head coach is inexperienced. So yes at this point he is an amateur. No head coach, Jackson, Auerbach..........nobody,........... is a great head coach 10 games into their first season. I am sure he would be the first to admit he can do better. And I am sure he will get better. And if, in a couple years he doesn't get any better, his ass will be looking for another job. Its that simple.

Coyote, I think that misses the point. We aren't required by rule to have a rookie coach. A couple of years is a bit long considering our window of opportunity with these 3 guys.

I'm not advocating any action being taken against Blatt; but I think we're setting the bar arbitrarily low considering even he repeatedly has said he should not be treated as a "rookie" head coach; NBA or otherwise.

He's been amongst the best coaches in Europe the last decade but he's far from being considered the greatest coach overseas and you know that. Obradovic is far and away the most succesfull coach of the last 15 years leading the Greeks to many Euroleague titles, Ivkovic following him close enough as another legendary coach. Messina had also more success in Euroleauge than Blatt. But no doubt he is one hell of a coach, tactically the Euro ball is regarded higly by NBA coaches and Blatt is considered one of the best. I suggest everyone to be patient and things will get better, the guy is no joke.

HAS NOTHING to do with any political issue. Hell, Dan Gilbert probably shares the same politcal views as Blatt, and I love and support Dan G to the fullest.

If you're blind to see that this guy's style of coaching is not FIT for this team, than I'm going to imagine you really are in denial of this guys lack of competence as an NBA coach.

You know, last year deep in December of 2013 Blatt was one game before to be fired , since Maccabi started bad that season. And one of the Maccabi owners didn't love him (exactly like you and maybe even more). Finally you know what happened - they won it all! Even then after winning the Euro-League and all the rest titles in the season that Maccabi owner didn't want to give Blatt a good word because he didn't like him nevertheless what he won. I guess it's going to happen the same with you. Even in case of Cavs have great success this season we'll never hear a good word from you about Blatt.
