DeAndre Liggins Waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All I have to say is that I like Liggins a hell of a lot better than McRae. It would be great if we could use McRae+ to get a real backup PG.
I think we're just signing Chalmers

Let's get a rim protector.

Birdman couldn't get 6 minutes in a bench game

Maybe, but he was the best fit for the Cavaliers in the D League. He has value in perimeter and help defense, he is solid in transition, unlike McCrae he doesn't need to hoist a shot per minute to bring value. On a team without draft picks, D League is found money.

Agreed. I think it was a smart move to make, and I still really want to see the Cavs get any sort of value out of McCrae.

Seeing Liggins as the annual "Cunningham" player that sees minutes early on until we find a better piece when trade season picks up.

No doubt in my mind that we can do better. But it will be determined how we'll go about fixing the team based on how we look after January. Griffin has done this every year with this team, so while I don't know what will happen and/or who we get, it's easy to predict for me.

In the meantime, good luck Liggins! Good luck, McRae.

Did anyone pay any attention to Liggins on Paul George? What did you see?

Okay, this same question vs. Philadelphia [minus Paul George obviously]? I noticed our defense getting stops everytime he came in.

I'd comment more on both of those but I have been watching shitty streams and wasn't able to catch much of that Indiana game. I'd say it's worth giving this guy minutes over the wet fart.

He tries hard on defense and has a decent physical profile. We aren't getting much from our backup wings sans Shumpert and to a smaller extent Jefferson. So anything is worth a look as far as i'm concerned.

Looked like he changed the perimeter defense single handedly today after James Jones got us close.

Watching Liggins, he has no interest in shooting 3s it seems to me... Off the catch when the defense is scrambling he doesn't even look at the rim.

But I was looking through his stats and in the DLeague last season he shot 43.4% from three, and that was even on 4.21 attempts per game over 34 games... so that's a decent sample size.

I'm also curious as to whether the majority of these were off the catch. He played along with Rodney McGruder quite a bit in the backcourt who I wouldn't expect to be much of a shot creator, but Liggins had just a 18.4% usage rate.

I looked through more #s, and found that of Liggins's 143 three point shot attempts last season, 127 of them were from above the break. (Though his %s are fairly consistent among all 3pt spots). For reference, about 74% of JR's 3 point attempts last season were from above the break. That's significant if Liggins is to take JR's role if he's forced to miss time.

Unfortunately I can't find catch and shoot DLeague numbers anywhere.

Also, over 95 career DLeague games (2012-13, 2013-14, and 2015-16) he shot 38.0% on 4.68 attempts per game.

In the preseason he was 1 for 5 from three. 0 attempts in regular season this year.

Liggins was quite good today.

Defended well and brought some much needed energy in 2nd and 3rd quarter. Thats what we need from him. Also, he seems a decent ball-handler as well. If he can have any sort of respectable corner three shot, he would be a solid rotation player imo.

Not a lot of guys come into the league as willing defenders and work at it. But the few who do almost always find themselves playing a long time. It's a rare thing. Most guys want to come in gunning shots like McRae. I think liggins will be a good player for us. Being a willing defender shows that you're unselfish and will do whatever you need to win. The shot will come around. Usually it's the opposite with guys.

He's our discount Tony Allen with a better jumper.

Liggins will earn a spot in the rotation if he keeps playing defense with this kind of effort and intensity. Once he feels like he belongs, he might gain more confidence on offense. It's the first positive development for the Cavs' bench all season. I'll take it.
