Derrick Williams - worth a 1st rounder?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd take a gamble on him if we had an out option to oust him and his huge salary.

I look at him as a more talented Jordan Hill that just hasn't pieced it together yet. More explosive, better moves, can somewhat shoot it. Add in a little Antawn Jamison, Derrick just hasn't found his place yet, and Minnesota's quite a fucked up franchise all around.

He's in a thick Tristan Thompson like funk right now and he hasn't been able to bust out yet. There's still talent inside, he's just still taking his lumps and finding his niche.

His tweener status is still no good, but for a bench player he's a solid talent to have.

The price is the biggest concern. If you compromise flexibly going forward, No Go, no good, nope don't want em.

If you could get the #2 pick from last year for a hypothetical late round 1st you make that deal. Is his salary structure a major concern?

I know Kyrie would sign off on that move.

He's been getting a ton of minutes with Love out and hasn't done anything to really show that he's anything more than a career backup.

I don't know why, but I feel that we will make trade with Minny Speights for Williams, maybe some fillers too. I don't know why I can't get that idea out of my head. Minny wants to trade Williams for big man and so far Speights had good games with us. Speights is a lot better than big mans in Minny, except Pekovic.

If we can get a 1st round pick out of Minny, sounds like a deal to me.

He hasn't played up to the #2 pick but I think he's capable of more. As a starter he's averaging 10.8 and 5.6 on 37% and 35% from three. Not great numbers but I think he could be a solid guy off the bench with the second unit when TT is still out there. He could play off TT nicely.

Wouldn't give up too many assets for him though.

I am not quite sure what this means. If he's playing the way Tristan has been, I'd gladly accept him.

Something like that probably isn't too far off base. It's no secret that they have been looking to acquire another skilled big man to fill in while Love is out.

I know a tweener when I see one. Called it from day 1. James Michael McAdoo is the next overhyped tweener..... although I think some people have caught on as his hype seems to be dying down.

I remember watching this thinking Derrick Williams was going to be so good. Yea not so much.

Thats a really sick video. I dont know how Ive missed that.

So far Blake Griffin is the only player to be successful in the NBA on basically just being able to dunk. Williams is drifting into the James White realm.

This video gives the impression that Derrick Williams could play SF. IF he COULD play SF efficiently and successfully, his value would be MUCH higher (even just on potential). However, since he has been exposed as not being capable of playing the 3, he's just an undersized PF with no real basketball skill for the position.

Shaq. Dwight Howard for about the first 5 seasons.

Really wish this guy would adopt a Josh Smith type of tweener game...

I would like to have him on this team.. Remove him from Minn and get that #2 pick/franchise saver label off him and just see if he could be utilized as a pick and roll player... Might really excell in a 2 man game with an elite level PG who can score the ball...

That "franchise saver" label has never been on him from the start....he plays on a team with Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love.
