Destiny

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anybody interested in doing the Voult of Glass tonight after 11pm on the XboxOne?

Sadly, I'm not even surprised in the least by this. Bungie continues to drop the ball. A slight raise to the light cap, a couple of maps, a couple of missions... all of which were included in the original game.

Wake me up when they give us Raid matchmaking and don't make it so absurdly difficult to level up to 30. Some of us don't have hours and hours to dedicate to this game. It's strange, because this game was stripped down to appeal to a more casual gamer base, but they've pretty much only been playing to the needs of those who spend a ton of time on the game.

The real problem is that this expansion just illustrates the problem this game had to begin with: a total lack of content.

In the retail game, there should have been one raid per planet, at least three or four strikes, and a dozen or more missions. I mean, it's not as if these missions are that tough to design. They basically funnel you from big room to big room and throw waves of enemies at you. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of thought put into the level design, either. Further, pretty much all the bosses are just bigger and tougher versions of normal enemies, so that's not really an excuse for the lack of content either.

Of course, the retail game was probably originally going to have all of that, but why include it from the outset when you can sell it back to gamers later as DLC?

If the game had had enough content to begin with, people wouldn't feel so insulted by this overpriced, underwhelming DLC offering. Calling it an expansion is ludicrous.

Glad I didn't waste my money on this game. It was so hyped up that I knew it was going to disappoint.

I'm having a ton of fun with this game.....

I know it's not a bad game, but a ton of people I know have been burned out on it for a while now since it apparently just turns into a giant grinding fest after a while. It was seriously hyped by many outlets as one of, if not the best game(s) of all-time and it just clearly isn't.

The game people were beta testing up to a year ago, the game they were showing off a year ago. Yeah, it was the greatest game of all time. When the creative director left, the game was ruined. They stripped over half if not more of the content, scrapped the entire storyline, and cobbled together this unfinished pile of shit we got sold. Half that stripped content is coming back as DLC. Instead of having the full finished game, and then having 2 additional DLCs that expanded on it, we got sold half a game that we have to pay another $35-40 a piece to buy a complete title.

If I have to spend $90-100 per game to buy them, I'm not buying them anymore. I have bought collector's editions etc. But this is just beyond unacceptable.

The sad thing is that there are about a thousand better, longer games you can get on Steam for twenty bucks or less.

As an example, BioShock Infinite, a vastly superior single-player game, is currently $7.50 on Steam.

The game we were promised and the game that we actually got are two completely different things. Once the creative director left the project and Activision got their tendrils into it, the game as we knew it changed completely, and not in a good way.

There's just not enough to this game to keep it interesting. No mission variety. The Crucible isn't all that fun, definitely nowhere near as fun as Bungie's other major sci-fi multiplayer game. Strikes lack variety and they all have a common theme of final bosses that are way too difficult to damage while being able to kill you in about two hits, along with the constant adds that they get throughout the course of the fight. There's ONE Raid that you can do, and even then it takes six people to tackle it, and even then those six people need to be at a minimum level 26, and even then that's no guarantee that you'll even be able to finish the damn thing. Oh, and did I mention that they just patched the final boss of the Vault of Glass to make him even harder to kill than he was before?

Upgrading the higher level gear takes a ridiculous amount of resources that are, in all honesty, scarcely found throughout the course of regular play. In other words, you'll have to devote time to going out and mining for helium filaments, spinmetal, etc.

Hell, you can't even buy Vanguard or Crucible gear without having a reputation rank of 2 for armor, 3 for weapons. And the quickest way to build that reputation up is to do bounties. Oh, and you can only have up to five active bounties at a time, meaning you'll have to keep going back to the Tower to lather, rinse, and repeat with the bounty bot.

The mark of a truly good gaming experience is being able to name more positives than negatives and to have some truly standout, memorable moments. This game, save for the graphics, has none of that. Just a whole heaping pile of disappointment that the defenders and fan boys are so quick to rush in and defend by saying things such as, "Well, if you don't like it, then don't play it." Fuck yourself. Don't tell me how to spend my time or my money. If I'm shelling out sixty bones to get a game on launch day, or any other day really, I expect to have a completed product that I enjoy playing in my free time. Don't sit there and tell me that I shouldn't expect game companies to be held accountable when they release a subpar product, especially when they spend millions and millions of dollars hyping it up and advertising it.

Instead, we've got a watered down game with pretty graphics, no storyline whatsoever, and gameplay that has very quickly grown stale. Speaking of the storyline, I'd love for someone to grab that off the cutting room floor and throw it up on Pastebin like they did with Mass Effect 3 a couple years back. I want to know what the actual story was supposed to be, not this nonsensical Darkness/Guardians/uninspired Dinklage voice acting bullshit they gave us instead.

An MMO without a story. I understand breaking the mold and bucking the trend, but I really don't think it's a good idea in this case.

Well that's a bad example. Bioshock Infinite was horrid... That said, there are many games that are better from a story perspective. From the top of anyone's head, I'm sure not to many would come to mind.

I wish there was more content in the dlc for sure. Three missions, thought it was 5, either way not so good. Those missions will basically be relegated to daily heroics and bountys. In theory not a bad thing, but over here in reality, I currently have 73 ass shards, how many times do you think I'm going to do a daily heroic...

The strikes, again 2 strikes would be great, if they were as long as a raid attempt. Unfortunately, most can be done in under 20 minutes.

The Raid is the only thing I can honestly say I am excited for. I thoroughly enjoy VOG, so I imagine Crota's end will be fantastic as well. That said, it makes the grind to 30 seem ridiculous. If I ever get to 30 (likely 10+ attempts at this point...) the raised level cap makes my gear worthless.

I'm not outraged by the amount of content in the dlc though. Basically they are giving us the equivalent to a 3rd of the game as dlc. Not a horrible value proposition, although it's not a good one. I find it funny that people had absolutely no problem paying 15 bucks for the Last of Us dlc, which is maybe 2 hours of content tops, but god forbid that you pay 20 for dlc that nets you 15+ hours easily. It reeks of faux outrage to me. Or a double standard, either way not a good look.

Ps4 guys, do you want to do the Raid tomorrow before/after the Cavs game? If not does friday work for everyone?

Not sure if serious.
Completely. The game lost me about 45 minutes to an hour in to it. If I have to try and like your game, I'm done with it. One of the worst purchases I've ever made, and I bought Beowulf (for 3.99 but still)

It's a story-based game. If I recall correctly, you mostly spend the first hour wondering around the city and soaking up the atmosphere before the shit hits the fan and you start fighting for your life. I realize the game probably isn't for everyone, but it's a fantastic example of how video games can actually tell a very good story. It's not the boring grindfest that Destiny becomes (well, it kind of starts that way and never changes, to be honest). You're constantly on the move with interesting things to do and characters to interact with.

How about Portal 2? You can buy that for twenty bucks and I think it's one of the best games ever made. Just brilliant in every way. I'd much rather replay Portal 2 than grind through another four hours of Destiny's bullshit.

Mdog: I really want to tackle the Raid again, but I have the most time to dedicate towards it this weekend. Saturday most likely. I know OohDang, MJA, tehshad, and others have said they wanted to tackle the Raid.

I do still maintain that Destiny would have been one million times better with Wheatley as your sidekick instead of the Dinklage.

Ok that's fine by me if it works for everyone. I can be on around 4 eastern on Saturday.

Portal 2 I never played Jack. I mostly like RPG's because I find the time vs. Dollars value to be better than other games. That said, I've played a lot of non RPG's as well. Racing games are a blast, of course 2k sports, and COD zombies.

I like a good story game, TLOU was great for example. But the time vs cost for those types of games don't balance out for me. I can pick up GTA5 on release day and get a solid 30 hours at least out of it without touching the online, and feel good about the purchase, where as TLOU on release gives about 14 hours. Half the time and the same amount of money.

I have no real taste in games I suppose, I would watch them all burn for yearly zombies. Maybe that's my tastes?

Even Destiny, a game in which I adore, I would give up in a heartbeat for a single zombies map. I can sink hundreds of hours into a single map with no problem.

As for dlc in general, it's a giant cash grab. Always will be. So with that said I support any anti Destiny dlc, and any anti dlc movements out there. I miss the days where an expansion pass meant basically a whole new game.
