Destiny

I actually found the moon to be pretty easy. I have a 2 man team that I'm starting to use for a co-op. (I enjoy the company).

I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep it. I may try and trade it with some joe schmo on Craigslist. It's an fps w some rpg. Story seams weak. PvP is ok but I played 1 game and everyone was great. I still wish they would have done a better intro to everything (what's this, here's the top level, when you should go here). It just seems like a lock step game w minimal freedom.

I played Destiny for about an hour and a half last night.

Pros:
  • The game is very pretty. Bungie has always been pretty good at crafting beautiful vistas (although in the Halo series the character models always felt about two games behind everything else graphically), so I guess that's not much of a surprise.
  • The gameplay is solid. It pretty much plays just like Halo, complete with the floaty jump that always annoyed me.
  • It does seem a little faster-paced during firefights than Halo, though, at least until you get to a boss and spend ten minutes chipping away at their health. I count this as a good thing, as playing Halo always felt like wading through a river of caramel.
  • The RPG elements are fun. I found myself unable to complete Halo 4 because I just got bored, and most of the other Halo games had stretches (mostly Flood levels, as the Flood were terrible) that seemed more like endurance trials than fun. The promise of another level-up on the horizon does wonders for keeping me interested in Destiny.
  • I didn't play the beta, so the first time you show up at the Tower and there are dozens of other players around is pretty cool.

Cons:
  • Is there a story in this game? I would have preferred something a bit more substantial. As it stands, it's some generic enemy called the Darkness that shows up and wrecks shit, and it's up to me to save humanity. Yawn.
  • The game is very derivative of Borderlands. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the Borderlands games were great, but it just feels like Bungie didn't even try to innovate at all with Destiny.
  • Only three classes. I find that a little lazy, especially since they can all use any gun. I would have preferred more classes, each with unique abilities and weapon types.

I'm still on Earth and just got my warp drive, so obviously I've only seen a small part of the game. The above impressions are based on the piece that I have played. I'm enjoying the game. It's not ground-breaking or innovative, but it is fun. We'll see if that's enough to carry it through to the end.

I couldn't get in to Destiny Beta, the leveling just seemed CoD-esque to me "keep playing and youll get a stronger gun and a higher rank!" and nobody I ran into was using a mic so it was basically just me and some idiots running away from our objectives

the bosses are pretty cool though and its definitely a well made game, it's just dependent on the community and that left a bad taste in my mouth (in my experience)

I've enjoyed it so far, it's getting a little mundane though, just going from place to place and killing people for an end prize, but it's fun.

I'll add those of you I haven't already tonight or tomorrow and maybe we can get some legitimate teamwork in. I'm sure the game is more fun with people who talk to each other, as are most online games.

I haven't gotten a headset for the PS4 yet as this is the first game I had any interest in playing online, what are you guys using?

I'm using the one that came with the PS4. It's shitty compared to the one that comes with an Xbone, but it's functional.

Its all I need.

So I played a match before work today (coudnt get back to sleep).

PSN: IHATEMCCONAUGHEY and I hear a few of the guys talking, "hey did you see that guy", "look at his user ID". All of a sudden (for a good 5 minutes) it became a collection of the worst matthew mcconaughey impressions ever. But damn was it a good laugh before work.

the headset the comes with the ps4 doesnt really fit in my ear. Its a struggle.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why Sony didn't spend the extra ten cents for a curved piece of plastic and some foam, but their headset really feels like a piece of shit. The Xbone one isn't amazing or anything (it's a little nicer and more durable than the 360 one), but you don't have to constantly worry about it falling out of your ear at least, and it feels reasonably well-made for a cheap, bundled headset.

I don't play enough console multi-player games to spring for a better one, though. I have the Razer Megalodon for my PC and love that thing to death, but I only bought it originally because I used to play TF2 competitively and an expensive surround sound headset is basically a pre-requisite.

I'm I The Kurgan I on the xb1. Haven't had a chance to bust it out yet, but add me.

You have a one too right? Not saying it's a necessity or anything, but if you want to (or already have one) buy a headset that will work on both.

If you don't play many multiplayer games then not much point, but just a suggestion.

Yeah, but the Xbone comes with a headset too that is actually pretty nice for a bundled accessory.

It's basically just a slightly nicer re-design of the headset that came with the 360, but it does what you need it to do without having to readjust it every five minutes so it doesn't fall out of your ear. No idea why Sony didn't just make something more like this to package in with the PS4. I can't imagine it would cost that much more.

The PS4 came with a headset? I must have disregarded it when unboxed mine. Will have to dig the box out and see if it's still in there until I find one that works with the PS4 and has good surround sound.
