Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I feel like a 5k is mostly mental for a reasonably fit person. I ran one two weeks ago and the last time I ran was the same 5k two years ago. I was thinking it was going to be hell but I ended up running the whole thing without stopping. I did keep a slow pace and didnt really give a shit about my time which was around 33 minutes but I'll take it for being someone who hates to and doesnt run.

If i ever run a 5K again thats my plan, just show up and do it... but if you actually care about your time then do the opposite lol

Decided to trim some fat for vacation in a month (yeah i know, lol only a month). Eating super clean, only non-processed meat, eggs, boatloads of veg, and lower carbs (carbs only coming from a bit of fruit, small sweet potato, and whatever i get from veg/nuts). last night i ate about 4 oz of leftover steak, small sweet potato, a bunch of kale, and some carrot/celery sticks. then made scrambled eggs for breakfast for the rest of the week, 4 eggs, 4 egg beaters' worth of eggs, tons of spinach, mushroom, red onion, tomatoes, bit of garlic and one slice of pre-cooked bacon.

should be able to drop 10-15 lbs in a month if i actually make it to the gym and play tennis like i intend to, granted a lot of that will be waterweight

How should I approach training for a 5k? I know I don't have to run the entire thing, but as someone who hates cardio, I feel I need to at least try to prepare in the proper way. Advice/feedback is greatly appreciated.

It is a Color Run. You literally run like a mile, not even, and walk through a color station b/c it is so crowded, and it is the point of it. If I were you, I would just build up by having 2-3 days of slow running/jogging. The big thing is to follow a routine. When I train for my half marathons, just b/c I can go farther than 4 miles on my 4 mile day, I don't go past it. Go online and search for a however many weeks 5k training program (there is a good one that a lot of women follow called "From couch to 5k, 10k, etc.." (something like that)) Look that up and just follow. On the other 2-3 days, do sprints for 15-20min. Real light jog for 1min, sprint for 30sec..jog 1min, sprint 35...etc...

But for the color run, don't worry. It is a piece of cake. Plus running next to hundreds/thousands of people kind of motivates you as well.

You will get that beer belly back within 2 days from the Natty you will be chugging.

Yeah I will probably go through a few cases in that week on vacation, oh well, i'll make it up rowing or swimming (not)

Successfully avoided a cookie during a meeting after lunch (salad, nuts, berries, slice of cheese with a bit of meat). good so far.

Also I can vouch for couch to 5k as being a good regimen to follow and there's a good app for it. i didn't stick with the program for more than a couple weeks but i was making very obvious progress. i didn't really want to do it in the first place, thus why I ended up stopping. i hate running.

The sad thing about it is that the real persons face probably looks pretty similar.

Watching people do/talk about CrossFit on facebook/anywhere is a pain.

"DID 20 BOX JUMPS WOD RFX WHATEVER ACRONYM I CAN THROW IN HERE TO MAKE MYSELF SOUND COOL TODAY!! YET I STILL OVERWEIGHT! THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT FAM!"

i went through so much pain googling "crossfit memes"

so many stupid acronyms, jesus. and of course they all overlay the VERY few jacked crossfitters "look at this guy cleaning 350 pounds! THATS crossfit!"

the WORST is everyone "has a friend that does crossfit, he does it to train for MMA and hes bigger than you bodybuilders are" like yeah, sure they are, cool story

I didn't realize we were into the anti-CrossFit portion of the forum; however, I was going to recommend that you drop into a nearby CF Affiliate to help you with your power cleans. Many (not all, so do your research) CF gyms have coaches that have taken the USA Weightlifting Coaches Course; I've also taken it, and it is a very worthwhile weekend class. Not sure where you live, but I might be able to direct you to a place.

The concept of CrossFit is sound; like everything else, the people usually ruin it. Just like the influx of douchebags happened in the sport of triathlon about ten years ago, we've all been seeing the same thing on a greater scale with CF. Add to that, you only need a weekend 'cert' and three grand, and boom you can start your own CF gym.

The fact that all it takes is a weekend and 3 grand is stupid. Yeah of course there are legit crossfit people, but its gotta be a small percentage of the total and that aint enough to salvage its reputation IMO

I have a co-worker who does Crossfit or WODS-- and is very disciplined about her diet, yet, she isn't as nearly fit as I am. But she keeps pumping it up like it's so great.

And I've been slacking on my exercising within the last 2 weeks.
