Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
i been doing well lately, i have to go on a week long trip to climb the Ozarks in august, we'll see how i fare without a proper source of protein nor weights for 10 days

Spent the day at a weightlifting seminar with Donny Shankle (five-time National Champion WL and 2016 hopeful), and it was fucking outstanding. Lots of real technician-level shit, and we had a pretty hardcore training session, which I didn't expect. Good thing I came right from working 24hrs at the FD this AM. Still, I was able to have some pretty legit 1on1 conversation and coaching; and he was all amped up when I told him I'd be bringing his teachings back to my fellow FFs. Great day, and I am going to reward myself with some ice cream.

Over a week later and the back is better but still fucked up. Gonna try running tomorrow as I am going insane sitting doing nothing.

Need help, and I am looking to DC and other power lifters to guide me. My buddy came in town and we went through some basics of the deadlift, and then I did some deadlifts for the first time. It was pretty dope, and I want to explore other power lifts. So the question is, how do I learn? I am not opposed to asking random people at the gym who are doing it, but I want to learn to do cleans and snatches. Since the internet is officially saturated, including info on working out, what is a good website to learn technique basics? That's where I am at: I want to learn how to hurl hundreds of pounds, and I don't want to get hurt while learning it.

Another wrinkle is that from a quick look around the SDSU gym, I didn't see the "real" powerlifting barbells, we just have the octagonal plates. Not that I plan on slamming weights down, but I found that odd: this is a pretty damn good gym, so maybe I just missed them... Maybe Dave knows where the stash is, but when I lifted with him, he wasn't doing power lifting.

Anyway, mad respect to the power lifters out there. I don't even need to keep adding a ton of weight to my lifts, I just know that my body responds quite well to lifting in general, and I like the idea of something that marries technique and enough weight where I can fly through a workout in 1/2 hour and feel a (mostly) whole-body pump.

My general routine has been to be really strict with my carbs during the week, and I find that pretty conducive to cardio - I have no problem putting 1 foot in front of the other for an hour or more. I figure that since I usually don't eat clean on the weekend, I might as well try to get a good lift in at least once then, maybe twice. Something like 1 good powerlifting day and another day of chest and vanity (curls/abs/triceps)...

Obviously my post is helter skelter, but the main thing is "where can I go to learn technique about powerlifting and how do I build a routine for a 32 year old who has never powerlifted before?"

I listen to Pandora "Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout" station while going at it. The Danza Kudura by Omar song is probably the best motivation while at the gym. It just gets me fucking going. I don't even know what any of the words mean, but it doesn't matter. I could lift a car off a person if that song was on the radio of the wrecked car.

Nicky, is there anything better than picturing Brian O'Connor and the gang opening that big ass safe at the end of Fast Five and everyone getting their money?

LOL every time ive been to mexico, the resorts play that song at least 3 times a day.

new favorite food, 4 scrambled eggs, 1 serving of tater tots, a half serving of shredded cheese and a serving of ketchup. 548cals, 31g protein, 100% tasty as fuck. Could probably even throw a can of tuna in there if you wanted to up it to 53g protein, but probs not as tasty

still havent had any supplements in like 2 weeks and the only difference is my wallet is heavier and my indigestion is gone...

Music is universal. Doesn't matter if you understand the words, as long as you feel like you can roid out, without actually injecting in your taint.

I'm going to try to explore the art of Tai Chi.

I somehow have a lower back injury, out of nowhere. Not cool.
So, I ate my brownies obsession with home made chocolate sauce and homemade caramel sauce and french vanilla ice cream, and garnished with pecans. That was breakfast!

Totes tops your breakfast, Aux!

Somebody seriously recommend some earbuds or sport headphones that I don't have to keep readjusting during cardio/shooting hoops or whatnot. Always falling out of my ears. So fucking annoying. And I literally thrive on music during my work outs. I can't go without it. They can be wireless or wired, I don't care too much. Never tried wireless/blu tooth in my life so no idea how the quality is.

It's been almost 8 months now and I think my body is finally starting to get there in terms of normalcy. Still out of shape, but that will come in time. Paying my tuition this week so I'll be at the RPAC @ OSU nonstop starting Friday. By December, I'm hoping to see some serious results.

creatine, protein and C4 PWO was what I was taking. I might have noticed a small difference with the creatine, but coffee replaced my PWO and i just couldnt do protein shakes any more, gave me the bubble guts. Im just trying to eat as much meat as i can.

i still managed 152g protein on 1820 calories

i use these http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PM...&keywords=adidas+sennheiser+headphones&dpPl=1
Idk why theyre so expensive, i paid like $45 for them ~4 years ago. They dont move on your head and they have nice bass, they also allow you to wear sunglasses if that is your thing. Only downside is the volume adjuster mid-cord can swing around if you dont clip it on your shirt. it looks like the newer version has a smaller volume adjuster. And if you lift on say a bench, they can get pushed off your ears, but you can still hear your music... it kinda sucks but its a good trade for headphone that dont fucking fall out while you move

Happy to help, however I can....

First, when most people refer to the 'power' lifts, they are usually talking about the 'slower' big lifts; squats, deadlifts, and overhead/bench press. The Snatch, and Clean & Jerk, are considered to be the main staples of Olympic Weightlifting, aka Oly, WL, etc. Adding to the confusion, is who Olympic Weightlifters usually refer to themselves as 'Weightlifters'....unnecessarily confusing, I know. The best way I have figured out to differentiate between the two types of lifts are FAST (clean, C&J, snatch) and SLOW (squat, press, deadlift).

You mention wanting to learn how to snatch/clean; unfortunately, those are difficult and technical lifts to learn on your own. Not saying it can't be done, only that you might need to find some supplementary coaching, and not just dudes at the gym. Bumper plates (the thick rubber plates that make you able to drop the bar without breaking anything) in a gym are a good sign. I used these demos from Catalyst Athletics as good ones, but they don't have any description.

Spending a little while on youtube, looking at Weightlifters like Donny Shankle, Jon North, Kendrick Farris, Dmitry Klokov, and Pyros Dimas. Local guys include Jared Fleming, Caleb Ward, and Kendrick Farris.

Are you saying him in particular, or the cheapest form of protein comes from a tub?

Quinoa, lentils, eggs, etc are all pretty damn cheap and great sources of protein obviously. And healthier lol.
