Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I think that Dion will surprise us. CG and Byron seemed extremely excited. This kid was the alpha dog of his team, and that's exactly what we need. A guy who controls the game and makes his teammates better. We might have found our Westbrook and that is definitely something to look forward to.

Thrilled with the pick after MKG and Beal were off the board...ROY candidate. Going to surprise everyone. Stud...

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

After watching some highlights, and checking out twitter to see the reaction from Grant and Byron I'm feeling better about the pick. We were pretty helpless in terms of getting either MKG or Beal. I do think Thomas Robinson will be a great player, but I think that Waiters will be a good side court mate with Kyrie. I also heard that TT has been working on his game A LOT this summer so i'm expecting a much improved TT as well.

Kyrie-Waiters-Gee-(Andy/TT)- (Zeller/Andy) Is a team that I want to watch grow and get better.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I'm really curious for everyone that hates this pick, were you fanatics over Barnes? Because as I recall, plenty dreaded the thought of taking him. I'm not saying this isn't a head scratcher, and can prove to be a bad pick (time will tell). I was definitely surprised. I think most of you are allowing your disappointment of not getting MKG or Beal get in the way of this pick. To be fair, Ford DID have him ranked in the top 5 on his big board, ahead of Barnes.

And W&G, I definitely respect your opinion, obviously you understand the draft way better than I. But doesn't Robinson have some of the same issues? I personally don't think he'll ever defend at a high enough level in the NBA. He's a tweener, and that's a big problem in the NBA.

To me he's definitely going to be a player that scores points, but be stuck on a bad team majority of his career. He has Antwan Jamison kind of career written all over him.

Having perimeter players that are defensive liabilities can be a problem, but it cannot be on the front line if you're going to win a title. You need guys that can shut off dribble penetration in the paint, and protect the rim.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Meh. I think there are guards drafted below him who will turn out to be better. We'll see.

Max,

how early on did you have any inkling that Waiters was getting strong consideration from the Cavs. Or was it news to you as well when the story broke last night

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I LOVE when everybody acts first and thinks later. Shows the quality of the boards, hm? There's like 10% of you guys who do know how to react to question mark picks, especially since Grant and Ferry love to do that to us.

I don't know if he'll be all that great or not, since I've heard he's quite lazy, but it could pay off now that we have a pure scorer at a desperate position. If he ever puts in the full load, he could be a good 20-5-5 guy with his athleticism. He could also be a threat not just offensively but defensively. But that's reaching. Right now, he'd make a quality NBA player, but I'll wait to see footage from Summer League, Training Camp, and the Regular Season before I write him off or even consider him. I'm cautious.

jay bilas said cavs had best draft night

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

If Waiters is lazy, then having Scott as his head coach is going to whip him right into shape. He thought Boehiem was bad...watch the fuck out.

I called it 3 weeks ago...a SELECT here few will confirm it.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

NICE! Was it in a public thread or a mod only shindig.

What I'm getting at, is there something we should have been paying more attention to in the last 3 months to realize that Waiters was a hugely viable option at for the Cavs.

Also, do you think MKG and Beal would have both been taken ahead of him by Grant if the choice were there?
