Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Actually, here's a better one, as it shows his defense (which apparently he sucks at)

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I'm fully willing to welcome Waiters, and I hope he does great. I am glad we got Zeller, I think he will be solid.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

his S40 numbers are pretty elite, but then again steals do not always = good defense

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

We filled roster holes. Time will tell if we filled them out well.

If Tristan's 27 & 12 game is any sort of harbinger of what's to come, you guys are going to be happy. The list of players who did the same, at the same age or younger is pretty impressive.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

He's got a really nice, high release on his jumper.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Dude seems to be a true bulldog (no omri). I have some concerns about size, but I'm excited to watch he and Kyrie light it up next year.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Watching his highlights he plays like Harden, imo. I love this pick. Him and Kyrie will be crazy good in transition.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

One of the good things about Waiters is, he can go into beast mode where it seems like he couldn't miss if he tried, similar to wade, didn't see that with Beal, MKG, or Barnes. All the people complaining about his D are wrong. His D improved immensely in his sophomore year, and he was in a complex scheme, so we cannot really translate it, but I doubt he is a d liability. The sad thing is, MKG is the perfect match for Waiters, but I would rather have Waiters and Zeller than MKG, PJ3 ( there is a reason he fell, people) and some 2nd rounders

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Only concern is his size otherwise he's got all the tools not just to be starter but if things work out a star: great first step, can dribble, passes well, finishes well both with right and left, strength to finish thru contact, can hit the outside shot (off the dribble is streaky but can hit the open jumper). He's got the right coach who won't let him slack. Most impressive finish was that left handed scoop shot he was able to pull off in midrange. You can imagine defenses going batty trying to stop him and Irving

His numbers are actually very impressive when you look at his ability to get to the line and TS%. Unlike flops like Foye, Wes Johnson, etc: he was much more efficient last year and he did in his sophomore year so not as concerned about the "man against boys" scenario

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I was shocked, and angered when he was picked. A good think RCF locked some of our accounts until just now.

Having done some research, listened to Hollinger, and read some more about him, I'm fairly excited. The guy will be able to score immediately. The NBA is made for guys who can get to the rim and score. Finishing at the rim is a hard skill for anyone, and coming into the league with the ability to do that is great. He could use some better handles, for sure, but he can still beat his man.

His jumper is slow. I don't like it one bit. He needs to quicken it a little more or learn how to shoot a fade away with good efficiency, because otherwise he's going to get blocked. A lot. He seems like a streak shooter. I don't think he's Larry Hughes levels, but I don't think he's Kyrie either. It needs some work.

His defense, how can anyone tell? The guy played at Syracuse, the hardest place to discover how good a defender is in the NBA. Will it hurt him, will it help him? Who knows. I'd say he definitely has the athletic ability to do it. Does he have the heart and the head to do it? We'll see.

He's an extremely gifted athlete and some of the Dwayne Wade comparisons are legit. He does have some of Wade's moves and mannerisms when attacking the rim. Seems like he can hit that floater. He's explosive and can finish through contact as well.

The biggest thing I don't like is that his body type and attitude will take him as far as he wants to go. If he bulks up, loses some of his fat and chisels out some more, he could be unstoppable.

To me, Waiters is a rich man's version of Rickey Stuckey. Which, compared with Kyrie, is a very good player. If he can sort out his jumper, the sky is the limit for him, I think. He's got boom or average written all over him. It's a slight reach, but I prefer this kind of pick over the safe Barnes pick or the out of place Robinson pick.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

As far as Waiters goes i don't see why he is receiving so much flame. From looking at all of the scouting reports it seems that his biggest weakness may be consistently hitting his jumpshot.

Its worth a note to say that he did hit 7/10 threes against cincy at one point in the season so the dude can definitely catch fire. The scouts say he should be a pretty solid defender and they do praise him for his ability to create, slash, and draw fouls. The Dude is going to penetrate for us.

Having two players who can dynamically penetrate such as kyrie and Waiters excites me quite alot! I believe that Waiters can improve his jumpshot because he has shown that he can catch fire and get hot and that shows the potential.

Keep in mind that he could potentially be able to run some point as well while kyrie gets some rest which also intrigues me.

A knock on beal was not being aggressive or consistent enough and that is exactly the opposite when it comes to Waiters attacking the basket.

Personally i am so pumped to see both kyrie and Waiters attacking.

Think about the amount of rebounds we can get from our creation at this point with the two bigs we have in our front court now.

"You got two guys who can make plays for other people and get their own shot" -Byron Scott

on Kyrie's reaction to drafting waiters... "He was happy" -Byron Scott

"To be able to get two guys of that caliber is big time.... We had Tyler and Dion ranked in the top ten of our big board" -Byron Scott

"We have to grow from within and take our time" -Chris Grant.

Just posting some quotes from the press conference with Byron and Grant on the fan! I thought RCF would like to know what they have been saying :)

I see one more year in the lottery for us because it seems that it will take zeller a year to bulk up and Waiters a year to make his jumpshot more consistent.

I think waiters could easily be one of the top guards from this draft 3 years from now.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I will say this... Grant's choices of Tristan and now Dion are either going to make him a genius or jobless in two to three years.

No GM goes jobless. Good Ole boy network is strong.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Jerry West's opinion on Waiters:

Countdown to Warriors’ No. 7 pick: Dion Waiters looks like the guy | Talking Points

"Also expect a lot of talk about Waiters’ toughness, something Jerry West and others believe is lacking in the current roster.

So if Waiters is taken ahead of the Warriors, they’ll be disappointed–West, for one, apparently believes that Waiters could be the second-best overall prospect in this draft, behind only presumptive No. 1 pick Anthony Davis.

He’s another guard; that doesn’t fit an exact Warriors need. He’s an asset, though, in West’s parlance. The best teams just collect the best players and let it all shake out in the years to come–if you have too many good players at one position, you can always trade one of them."

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I honestly can't comment on him because I never watched him. All year long I watched every single rumored prospect all NCAA season long and we take the guy I never watched or payed any attention to. :chuckles:

I am just disappointed to not walk away with Beal or MKG. Lottery really fucked us there. Personally, I would have taken Robinson tonight. I think he's the 2nd best player in the draft, 3rd best at worst.

I just hope 2-3 years from now, we aren't looking back thinking.... Damn we could have taken Jonas/T-Rob/Barnes/Drummond/etc.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

He's masterful and powerful off the pick-n-roll and at his best creating once he breaks his man off the dribble and slashing to the basket. This offense can be downright scary with Waiters slashing and playmaking abilities coupled with Zellers energy and floor spacing.
