Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

He is playing against DLeague scrubs, rookies, and guys who will be back to working at the local Wal-Mart next week.

So you're saying he's going to play with the same intensity and effort level against "D-League Scrubs" that he will against Dwayne Wade?

Some guys really lose their edge in non game situations. And yes, Summer League is just that, a non game situation. To think anything else is reading way too far in to it.

This stretch is about staying healthy, trying to improve in workouts and moving on to training camp. If he keeps playing like this when it matters, then worry away. Until now, just enjoy the distraction.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I have mixed feelings about that too, but that's why NBA GMs get paid the big bucks. If a guy like Drummond can realize his upside potential, then he's worth the risk. A lot of mediocre players get picked top-5 as well, and that's a pretty big risk in my book as well.

I know we weren't getting MKG (a guy who's always going to give 100% no matter the situation) when we took Waiters, and I know we didn't have him in for workouts and interviews. And I know he had attitude issues his freshman year. But I figured CG and gang had him vetted and made it clear what would be expected of him once we could bring him in to Cleveland.

The red flags are there waiving in front of our face. Dion didn't complain about how tired he was, or that Tuesday's game was on a back to back ... he said we'd see him play a lot better. Well, instead we got strike #2. Next!

Strike 2? I mean seriously? So one more bad summer league game and that's it for him. K.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I'm getting a bit worried. The outside shot doesn't concern me, but he was supposed to be elite driving the ball to the basket. Boeheim said only Westbrook would be able to stay in front of the kid, of course I didn't expect that to be true, but I also didn't expect that Dion would have a hard time driving against D League players...

And the defense is just too bad to be true.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Good god I'm just going to have to stay out of the Waiters thread and the summer league threads it seems like. Board is losing its mind.

Wait, what?

Talk about over exaggeration. We're still like 4 months away from the regular season. Wow.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

2 bad summer league games so far.

No excuses.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Holy hell are there some impatient fuckers on this board. These aren't even preseason games. People need to get some lives instead of breaking down over some rookie's summer league woes.

Yeah! Attack! Attack! Attack in a Summer League game and risk getting hurt in meaningless game! Sounds like a plan. MKG tweaked his knee attacking the rim, Rivers screwed up his elbow driving the lane; it's the fucking Summer League. He's clearly holding back, anyone who saw him play more than once at Syracuse can see that. Get his feet wet, create some chemistry, and get the fuck outta LV healthy are probably the goals for the Cavs rookies. I mean, for fucks sake, the Cavs aren't running any plays except for that middle school pick-n-roll up top and improvise.....

So your saying his struggling because his NOT TRYING !!!??? If his not trying in a SL game, what type of effort is he gonna give in less competitive (yet important) things like practice ? (No wonder he likes Iverson)

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Some people will just never be satisfied. Real player development is not like that in 2K12. It takes work, time, and failure to ultimately succeed.

The only way I could've said this better would have been to make it more eloquent.

Jesus man. Everyone needs to keep things in perspective.

Byron is out there playing grab ass in-between dead balls and cracking jokes about God only knows what. He and Waiters were laughing in the middle of the first game during a time out. This doesn't matter, at all, in the grand scheme of things.

Waiters got a lotto promise in the 1st week of June. The lottery wasn't until the 28th. He probably spent 3 straight weeks eating corn dogs and watching reruns of curb your enthusiasm.

It's pretty clear he's not in shape and a bit rusty. Your fitness level doesn't change overnight, nor does your jump shot. He'll get in the gym and get it corrected but people expecting to see massive improvements, over 24 hour stretches, are not being realistic (at all).

There's a lot of q3 summer league slop, and I'm also sure that a lot of the play book went out the window when Kyrie got hurt, but there have certainly been some plays. I've seen at least two nice plays where Waiters got assists by passing to a man who was freed by off the ball screens.

Anyway, I agree that Waiters isn't forcing contact in the paint. What's the point unless he wants to end up like Gallinari did after Tractor Traylor tossed his butt on the floor in the 2008 vsl. Took that kid over a year to recover.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Fuck it. I'm done trying to mop up all the shit you guys are spewing. I swear to God...a bunch of teenage girls.

Sorry if I sound like a prick, I'm sure the cramps are really uncomfortable. See you on the bandwagon in a couple months, I'll keep some seats warm.
