I'm not sure where he gets off saying dion is above average. He is below average in most shooting categories at his position.

He probably watches basketball instead of box scores.

Oh, so you would then see countless drives to the rim resulting in airballs and turn overs. Whining to the refs after every single play. Sulking if he misses a shot and trotting back on defense. Standing still on offense for 14 seconds of a 24 second shot clock if he is not initiating the play. Whining to his agent that he doesn't get enough shots. Getting kicked out of practice.

I went by stats because it paints a more favorable picture for him than actually looking at the whole package.

Mannix on 92.3

Waiters still has value. Won't get a star player back but a solid player. Waiters doesn't have the value that a number 4 overall pick should at this point.

Waiters is above average as a player. Waiters has a bad reputation around the league. Can score, decent prospect, but teams won't give up a ton.

What value should a number 4 pick have from that draft? How much value does MKG have? Beal? Barnes? Thomas Robinson? Terrence Ross You aren't getting a lottery pick at any spot this year for any of those guys.

The only dudes that could fetch a serious return right now are Davis, Drummond, and Lillard.

I hate this "Cleveland fans" argument and how many people perceive them. Plenty of people outside the Cleveland area see much promise and upside in Dion.

How quickly people forget when Dion started on the Olympic team roster last summer. He didn't play well in the game but he showed enough skill to be named a starter in the game. We're not the only ones that see his talent...

Great -- then we should be able to get really good value for him in trade, because other GM's will recognize that.

That's good. We are totally in a position to give away "above average" players that have played less than a season and a half of NBA basketball to a team that "won't give up a ton".

The quote said we'd get back a "solid player", not a star. Well, since Dion isn't a star, that seems to be a fairly decent return. It's not "giving him away." At the same time, Mannix (don't even know who he is...) also said that Dion has a bad reputation around the league, which is something that offsets his skill set and reduces his value to other teams just as it reduces his value to the Cavs.

GMs know we're desperate to make a move. We won't get full value for him because he's a prospect and also because other teams know we want to get rid of him. With all that being said though we should still get a decent return on him.

I think it says something that the first player all other GMs ask about whenever we talk trades is Dion Waiters. He has value. We've just brought it down a lot by mishandling him.

Sounds like the front office has officially given up on Dion Waiters.

That's funny...because I've officially given up on this front office and it's attempt at our rebuild.

We need a fucking miracle to fix this mess. And to think back to all the excitement and hope before the season started. Ugh.

I've watched Dion very closely in almost every game this season. I thought prior to the season he was going to make a big leap.

He is one of the worst guards I have ever seen when it comes to playing off the ball. I went through the last 10 games and counted possessions where he does not have the ball to initiate the offense.

There are between 5 and 20 (twenty) times per game where he does not move from his position for at least 14 seconds. He literally stands still doing nothing if he does not have the ball. There are countless times where he does not know how to simply move into an open space created by the movement of the ball and his teammates where he could have an opening for an easy shot.

I really can't figure out how someone at the NBA level does not understand this simple basketball concept.

This shows how far Mike Brown either hates Dion, or doesn't get it. He puts Kyrie Irving off ball, and this is the chance to start Dion, and allow him to run the offense. He might be the only on the team that really can! Hell, this might be the only solution to get him really clicking, and more importantly him and Kyrie clicking, but he goes to Jarrett Fuckin' Jack! GRRR!

There's no doubting Dion is not the smartest player ever, but it boggles my mind why they continue to allow him to play more towards his weaknesses, than anything he actually can do well on the floor.

Mike Brown puts guys in positions to just fail. He doesn't accept what players he has, and is always trying to mold them into what they're not. Drives me nuts.

Eh? His full value includes the uncertainty that comes from being a prospect. You can't simply assume that he's going to reach his potential -- you've also got to account for the possibility that he won't reach his potential. That's all part of "full value."

With all that being said though we should still get a decent return on him.

I hope so. I agree that the way the Cavs have handled this, letting it play out in the media, etc.., hurts his value. MB making his dislike for him so obvious doesn't help either.

it also says this team just flat out doesn't have a whole lot of attractive young talent. which is true.

also, dion's done quite a good job bringing down his own value by acting like a petulant 12 year old.

KI is the point guard for this team long term. The primary reason JJ is taking that role now is to increase his value prior to the trade deadline. At least, that's what seems logical to me.

Mike Brown coaches like a petulant 12 year old. That brings everybody down and enforces bad habits.

It's probably closer to the idea he's still evaluating him with the "potential" goggles on, and not based on what he's seeing on the court. You don't take those off until they're 25. If he was watching games instead of stats, he'd still see what the stats show. Stats don't lie, they're are there as a confirmation of what you are seeing(or conversely, to show you that what you're seeing isn't being seen with the most objective of eyes).

Its fustrating because we have 2 guys that can get to the basket at will and they can't figure out how to play them together. Trading Dion is weak. Way too early to give up on a talented 21 year old in his 2nd year. Dan Gilbert and Chris Grant were very excited about Dion last summer and they need to make sure the coach develops all the young players they drafted.

And only one of them can finish
