From Lloyd:
INDEPENDENCE: Dion Waiters expects to play Tuesday when the Cavaliers host the San Antonio Spurs.
Waiters missed seven games with a knee injury and is the first of the Cavs’ injured trio to return. Mike Brown said there was a slim chance Anderson Varejao could also return Tuesday, but that isn’t likely. C.J. Miles is still out with a sprained ankle and said he hopes to be ready to play by the start of the Cavs’ West Coast trip on March 12.
Waiters participated in all of Monday’s practice, while Varejao participated in about half of it.
“I feel good. The knee feels good, just a little bit of aching. But it's OK,” Waiters said. “I'm looking forward to playing tomorrow, looking forward to getting out there with my team. They’ve been playing great basketball ball the last couple games.”
Waiters hyperextended his knee when he landed awkwardly following a dunk.
"I thought I tore something right away," Waiters said. "But I'm just thankful. I thank God every day for not tearing anything."
Waiters leads all Eastern Conference reserves in scoring, averaging 14.5 points and 2.8 assists off the bench. He’s averaging 14.3 points and shooting 42 percent on the season.
