I will quote Griffin directly here: "as his game evolves he may play more 2 on the offensive side than he will initially".

This just screams, "he's going to be catching and shooting until he develops into a guy that can do more", to me. And Griffin went on to say he'll be able to defend multiple positions from the get go, so it sure sounds like he's our starting SF in the immediate future (barring some crazy trades :chuckles:).

I thought it meant we are trading Kyrie and shifting Dion to starting PG, right? Come on, those are easy dots to connect....

Well there is that desire for long people at their positions that are two way players...

I went into this off-season thinking that either Kyrie or Dion will be gone by the start of next season. I still feel this way, and it's nothing against either player. Dion is probably the odd man out because he's less talented than Kyrie, but he'll thrive in the right situation.

Damn just watched the press conference. Mary completely ignored what he said right after. Griffin called Wiggins a "perfect compliment to our ball dominant scoring guards."

I feel a lot better now. :D

The way I took his comments was that Wiggins is going to initially play more 3 (hence the "perfect complement" comment), but will shift more to being a 2 as time goes on. The "finding greatness" comment is pretty unambiguous.

However, before Dion fans start panicking, I think everything Griffin says is with the looming shadow of LBJ in mind. IOW, I would give exactly zero weight to his statement that Wiggins is going to be best long-term as a 2.

Waiting for someone to say we can't trade Dion because he's the heart and soul of this team

No one is going to say that because it's not true, but I don't see the problem with people not wanting to trade him just to trade him. We can trade him if we get great value for him, but I would have broke my desk in half if we traded him for a pick in the twenties in this draft. Besides, Wiggins has the height to play the 3. He has the frame to put on more weight to play the 3. He's going to be a 3 in this league.

Just watched the interview. Everyone who said it looked like Dion was on his way out is reaching...

gotta let them atleast play together.

Not if you think you can improve the team with a trade.

Plus, I feel like Kyrie and Dion being all buddy buddy at the end of last season was nothing more than a PR move to help Dion's value from plummeting.

Then you didn't watch the games. You can't fake the way they celebrated together on the court for each others' achievements. Disdain for someone always shines through. Unless you think they are both sociopaths, then you may have a point.

They also just attended the Tribe game together where Kyrie threw out the first pitch..

I think it all comes down to if Love would come to Cleveland. If so, Dion is a part of that deal.

If no deal, it comes down to how important is it to Dion that he starts. Blatt may start him or may not, but Blatt always has had deep rotations in Europe, albeit with just 40 minute games. The versatility to defend multiple positions on defense that Wiggins possesses and how Blatt and Griff talked about that today indicates to me that whether starting or off the bench, Dion has the opportunity to grab 28-36 minutes in every game per year.

Don't see them trading him for "just a guy" or a future pick. He's either traded for a star or here next year, hopefully thriving in the new offense. He's a pro and makes good money, his attitude and energy that he puts into the team will be key.
