He can handle the ball, catch and shoot, and showed plenty of ability to make off the ball cuts the last couple months of the season. That's clearly not at all what Griffin and Blatt want out of the SG position.

When Griffin gave his press conference, it sure sounded like Dion was a big part of our plans going forward, maybe that has changed but to say Waiters in the antithesis of everything Griffin has indicated he wants is way off

I do agree that there will be a lot of sad Cavs fans if Dion Waiters is traded. He's endeared himself to Cavs fans at this point, trading him before his 3rd season would piss a lot of us off.

I wonder if Griffin/Blatt views wiggins long term at sg because wouldnt that mean dion will be moved at some point?
Here are my issues but let it be known I would not favor a move that trades him
1) if they view wiggins as a sg, who will come off the bench? I dont think anyone wants wiggins to be the 6th man
2) if we start wiggins at sg, then dion will have to come off the bench long term, something we know he does not want to do.
3) lets say we go the Paul G way and start him at the two for a couple years then move him to the three, that still leaves us with the same issues above for atleast a couple years

Now all of this can be avoided if we start wiggins at the three, but hasnt it been reported they view him as a big 2?

undersized.

It will work if he plays 6th man, I don't think his ego will accept that though.

So he meets all but one requirement and that automatically means he's out? Seems a little ridiculous.

When I hear griffin say "big at every position" and say that Wiggins is a 2 in this league, coupled by Kyrie signing a 5 year extension and their obvious struggles to play together it would seem logical that he will be moved. He is also one of our pieces that likely actually has some value.

Now, if Blatt comes in and is the second coming of Pop and can somehow make dion and Kyrie flourish together things can change. However, Griffin talks about size as often as he takes a piss, if Dion is our starting SG and AB is our PF of the future that would leave us undersized at 2 of our 5 positions, I just don't see it.

I maintain that he is a stud 6th man with the way our lineup is currently constructed.

When I picture what Griffin wants I see something like a Kyrie Wiggins Ariza (not that we will sign him just a comparison) type lineup. Freakishly long and mobile on the defensive end.

It's pretty simple for Dion.

Adapt and change the way he plays the game or be traded.

We can argue all we want but the Dion we've seen for most of his first two seasons isn't a fit next to Kyrie Irving. Sure, Waiters is probably more talented than Klay Thompson, but who is a better fit for this team? It's Thompson, easily.

He needs to realize that he needs to create for himself within the confines of the offense. Too many times the ball gets into Dion's hands, he stops the flow, calls for a screen, and plays 1 on 1 and forces a shot at the rim.

If Dion would embrace a true Shoot Guard role, and not a Combo Guard role with the ball in his hands, his combo guard-like skills would be very beneficial to the team and the half-court offense. He's a talented player and more than capable of thriving in a true SG role, but whether he does it is another story.....

Problem with this line of thinking is that the team did better last year when Dion and Delly were in the line-up versus Irving. Admittedly this had a lot to do with Bynum and Jack, but the pattern still fit when the Cavs played frankly their most enjoyable ball of last year when Irving was hurt.

I think the focus on Dion is there because he's clearly (at least till this year) the second best player on the team with Irving getting paid to be the superstar and there is a lot of pressure on him to adopt. But from a team perspective I actually think it has a lot more with Irving maturing (as an example, Dion doesn't become a ball hog when playing with players who aren't as talented as Irving such as Delly). This isn't to say that there isn't a lot Dion can improve on but I think the fit question too much of the burden gets put on Waiters.

Dion will stay, and we will start him, Kyrie, and Wiggins.

Blatt has gone on record as stating we will be running the Princeton offense.

Key points of the Princeton Offense
-Position is not defined
-Players dribble & shoot at a an above average level
-Typically 2 primary ball handlers to facilitate
-Passing & off-ball movement will be important

Dion will be able to do all of that in this offense. Wiggins is not there shooting or dribbling yet.

On defense we are set.

So just because Griffin sees Andrew as a SG, does not mean he & Dion can not both be SG in theory. If by deadline Dion doesnt fit, then you move him. Right now he is too talented to move without seeing how they all fit together.

The organization has put its money into Kyrie at this point, for better or for worse. this puts the pressure on Dion, whether its right or wrong, to show the two of them can play together.

Either They do, or dion will be gone. JMO.

Blatt has specifically stated on multiple occasions that he does NOT run the Princeton offense. He stated that he has a very fluid and hybrid system with sets that are adjusted to personnel. He loved what he learned from Pete but also learned a lot of things he would not do (and said Pete would appreciate him saying that).

"I won't come in and run the Princeton offense just because I played for the great Pete Carril at Princeton," Blatt said

I do agree that we are not going to be in a rush to move him unless we are blown away by an offer, it is likely we ride with Dion early and adjust if needed.

Didn't Blatt go on record saying he didn't know what offense he would run here? IIRC he said he would adjust his offense to fit our personnel. He has experience with the Princeton offense, but I don't believe he has used it recently.

There's been way too much chatter about Dion being on his way out for me to believe he'll be here next year. Looks like I'll have to buy a new jersey.

this is one of the reasons why i loved the hire, doesnt try to fit square blocks in a circle hole

undersized.

It will work if he plays 6th man, I don't think his ego will accept that though.

Why does this matter that much if he can defend his position extremely well? He is a big body physical guy, I can see him become a really good defender in this league, he does have to improve on his help defense.

So what if he's undersized? He doesn't get backed down in the post and he gets in people's faces when they're shooting. He plays good defense for the position and his size is pretty darn irrelevant on that end of the floor.
