Dwight Howard Saga

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Saw this posted on ESPN this morning by Hollinger- I'll summarize. Sorry if already posted

The owner of the Magic is 85 years old. Good luck convincing him to trade away the face of the franchise and go into rebuild mode.

Although getting Bynum and Gasol still guarantees them as a high playoff team....

I think the Magic ultimately won't trade Dwight and will try to call his bluff in the summer.

I think Steve Nash would make Orlando and interesting team with Dwight and the perimeter shooters they already have.

Acquiring a 38-year old Steve Nash won't keep a 26-year old Dwight Howard in ORL for the long term. But I agree that it would make the Magic an interesting team this season, depending on who they give up to get Nash.

I really hope Dwight decides to re-sign with the Magic. It's good for the league, it's good for his legacy, and it shows he is willing to make a stand for his team.

I hope he signs with Dallas for Brooklyn. Magic fans on other sites where some of the most vocal about Lebron leaving. The Magic aren't going anythwere anyways with the core they currently have.

hmmmm

Dwight Howard Asks Magic For PG Steve Nash

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has asked the front office to pursue 16-year veteran and Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash, according to CBS Sports.

Sources close to the situation say that Howard will not exercise his early termination option if the Magic are able to acquire Nash.

Howard made headlines prior to the season when he requested that the Magic trade him. Prior to that demand, the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year stated that if Orlando is unable to surround him with a championship caliber team, that he would opt out of his existing contract and become a free-agent this offseason. The Magic made the decision not to move Howard in December with the hopes that they could convince him to stay.

For the Suns, Nash is averaging 13.9 points and 10.9 assists per game. The Magic’s Dwight Howard is averaging 19.9 points, 15.2 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.

Even with Nash, I don't see how they become contenders this season. However, if Howard indeed said to get Nash, they have to do anything they can to get him. If they can somehow do it without giving up Ryan Anderson, then it would be pretty interesting to see Nash, Howard, and Anderson together.

This "home team gets to give the player extra years on his contract" is stupid IMO. They are going to get nearly as much money in a new contract anyways. What is the real difference in pay, like 5%?

Hmmm... this sounds like LeBron asking for Jamison. It's a way to make a strong push this season, then use the trade that you just asked for as a reason to leave. "Oh, they don't have young assets and they don't have a pick this year, I better go to a franchise that can put a good team around me."

If I were Otis Smith...

You'd trade Howard to Charlotte. You'd make a lot more money than you do now. You'd be fired after Howard walked. Sorry just three tings that came to my mind. I'd like to be Otis for a couple of hours, transfer all of my money and 75% of future wages to my current self and then switch back because I don't want to go from 20 to 90.

Same shtick, different city.

Dwight should demand a trade to OKC.

OKC receives Howard + fillers

ORL receives Harden, Ibaka, Perk

OKC gives up a lot, but it is worth it if Howard agrees to an extension IMO. KD, Howard, and Westbrook would simply be unbeatable.

if howard were willing to go to okc (he never would) the team would be 10000x better if they kept harden and sent westbrook instead

Along these lines, the Orlando beat reporter had this:

Magic have talked to OKC but Thunder balks at giving up Ibaka and Harden to rent Dwight.

Yeah, the trade works fine until you come to the realization that Howard isn't primarily concerned about winning. Trading for Howard becomes difficult when his focus is elsewhere.

Re: that Orlando video. When a city makes a video, you know it's too late.
