Dwight Powell - F/C (signed)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: #45: Dwight Powell - F/C - Stanford University (Traded to CLE)

I am taking the guilty until proven innocent approach. Too many times have I gotten my hopes up for a young big that we acquire. Too many times has that player made absolutely no impact. If he can get minutes in the rotation, great. If not, so be it.

Re: #45: Dwight Powell - F/C - Stanford University (Traded to CLE)

I believe it can't go through until July 10th.

I can't wait for fans asking this question every day until the trade is announced.

Curiously, the trade to ditch Jack, Zeller & Karasev was pushed through quickly today, but as far as I know, this trade is still pending.

It doesn't need to be pushed through to clear space. As soon as they cut Hopson, they have max space, even if you include the empty roster cap holds. Completing the trade will clear an additional $1.25M in cap space.

I think the acquisition of Haywood tells you how much they like Powell. They helped Charlotte clear some space by trading Gee, but I think Powell is who they were really after. Haywood if a nice trade piece after this season, but Gee's contract was not guaranteed and would have allowed them to clear over $3M more.

Re: #45: Dwight Powell - F/C - Stanford University (Traded to CLE)

You'd think this deal would have been done by now so they can get Powell on the court today for practices. The deal must have some ramifications on their available cap situation, that is the only reason I can come up with as to why this deal isn't official.

My take on the trade is that the team knew they would be trading Zeller two weeks ago. Maybe it was because they knew that other teams would demand him. Maybe it was because they were high on Powell. Maybe it was because after two years, they were ready to let Zeller go and roll the dice again. Probably a bit of all three.

It crazy if Haywood was able to come back and provide spot minutes as a low post defender when the other team has guys too big for Varejao. Maybe a bit too crazy.

the haywood contract is what they were after. Powell is a dice roll like gee and felix were. Alex Kirk has as much of a chance to get minutes as Powell does, which aint much.

We will just trade Haywood and a first for nothing.

So, Hopson was traded for Powell and Haywood?

I guess so. Maybe someone could explain why we did this. We still get Haywood and Powell from Charlotte. Plus we get a 3 million trade exception from the Pelicans for trading them Gee. I wonder how we plan on using that.

Cool. It'll be good to get a look at him.

Powell has the chance to be good. Haywood's contract is great for using in a trade. Hopson isn't good.

So excited to see him play. Glad we picked him up.

I understand the Haywood contract for next year and that Hopson was signed last year just to be traded at some point this year. My question had more to do with the 3 million dollar trade exception? Is there some trade target that might use it for? Can that trade exception be added to another contract in a trade, like Kevin Love? Or does it have to be used in a trade a player that has around a 3 million or less contract? I thought that these exceptions can't be addedwith other players to make a trade work. I need to go to bed. :chuckles:
