Ebola...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Somehow I think the survivalists and those prone to hysteria would end up killing more people than the virus.

Okay, so we got Jack, Jigo and Optimus (?)... We need an Asian, another Black guy, some women, and a gun-wielding child...

All the way from eastern Ukraine. Already exposed to conflict...unfortunately.

You know what sucks... I heard Kiev was a fantastic place to hang out, along with the Czech Republic (Prague specifically).. I have a friend who visited there just last year and he absolutely loved it. Said the women were amazing and extremely friendly..

Does suck. Kiev is cool. City that was planted in a garden. You would dig it there. If ever the economy of Ukraine rights itself, the city would be a great place to live. And, yes, the women are nice. That said, Odessa would be my first choice (in the historical area). Right on the Black Sea. Known for its dark humor. International. Slow pace of life.

Prague, too. Hung out there for three months a couple years ago. Loved the city. Took an apartment away from Old Town district so not to be jaded by the throng of tourists. I really liked the Czech people, more so than any other group in Europe that I've met. Prague had its seedy parts just do the human sex trafficking element, but it contained in that it didn't ruin the city itself. A lot of ex-pats there, too, which is good and bad. Found a lot of them to be douche bags (there for the lax drug culture without contributing much to the country itself), but some cool folk, too.

Of course.

1) How do I know you aren't sick?
2) How do I know you aren't dangerous?
3) How do I know you aren't mentally unstable?

Trust is earned man, especially in the wild. To be met with anything but hostility would be me putting my own personal societal views above the safety and security of myself, my family, and my friends. Survival 101: Avoid People. Survival 201: If you can't avoid people, be pessimistically cautious.

Hostility doesn't mean shot on site, but it might mean that you would be told to walk 15 miles in another direction under guard and then let go (and then watched for another 10-15 miles). Why? Because fuck off there is more than enough land here, this is our space.

If someone walked into your home and said "Hi, I'm Jack.. Can I uh.. have some of this food you got here?" I highly doubt you would not be alarmed and highly suspicious.

Too late. :chuckles:

No, I think you'd be more in a dependent situation. I'm not saying "kill everyone," I'm saying that folks who have opposing views should sort themselves into their own groups so that leadership is not burdened with differing ideologies. It's best not to have people who want to challenge you in your group or question your ethics. Those people might begin to resent you, and then what you have, then then try to kill you in your sleep.

All the smiles in the world don't mean shit if they end up shooting you in the back. I need people I can trust so that I can hand them a loaded firearm and have them watch my back, not aim at it.

I feel that bro.. And to me, that seems like a perfect typeof person to bring along... Doesn't seem like a threat to me at all.. Just chill and be easy with what happens. But when people start vocally dissenting, it's time to sort folks out.

If you can't take charge of a situation to protect your family then who is tasked with that responsibility?

Or real world experience of:

a) Having my ass kicked by police, repeatedly, and almost getting my teeth knocked out.
b) Seeing how people really act when they are put into wild situations (like spending just a bit of time at the Workhouse will do).
b) Having my friend's brains blown out right next to me in the backseat of a Cutlass.
c) Growing up poor as fuck and having no food to eat for days.
d) Having no lights, no water and watching my mother go outside and turn that shit back on.
e) Having kids and no way to feed them
f) Dealing with stupid bitches who only care about the events of the day they find themselves in and not the next
g) Having a mother and uncles who lived through and served in Vietnam and show all the scars from it
h) Being left in a jail cell for days for no reason.
i) Learning first hand that being Black-Arab in America is akin to walking through a meat grinder and then tossed in boiling water.
j) Watching folks you knew your whole life get addicted to crack and literally just disappear from your conscious reality. "u remember so-and-so??"
k) Having not just the first bitch, but the next bitch drag your kids away from you and laugh in your face while doing it.
l) Having situations turn so ugly, so quickly, that you find yourself with truly no hope for your future.

So yeah... that kind of experience can shape you into being the kind of person who would shoot a border patrol agent if he felt he had to, or clear out a room full of people.

When I did play video games, I played them to escape... Not fuck around at my house in the 'burbs... But to escape poverty, destitution, institutional racism, unemployment; shit that would drive people to insanity. Try finishing school, getting a degree, keeping a job, with all that shit going on around you.

You got a 2-year old and a pregnant wife... Been there done that.. I got 3 fucking kids homeboy. I got a sick mother, a computer nerd stepfather, and a wife who would literally melt and most probably shutdown completely in such a situation. You're not the only one with a family...

I'm not saying I would invite an experience like that, I'm just being open and honest on an anonymous (I'd never say this shit in public) forum where we can see where/how different folks think.

p.s.
Not directed at you NateDagg, but just understand that because you've described your life as relatively easy you shouldn't assume the rest of ours has been. Me and my older brother can't even talk about our early lives without getting sick. So each of us has different experiences.. Mine led me to Hawaii where I truly felt reborn. My brother saw that and came out there and now has a new family, wife, and a great life.. But I never forget where I came from. Hard knock Cleveland...

Well that escalated quickly! I don't even know how to break apart your post and respond to your responses of my response b/c it isn't showing my first response. Probably wouldn't get me anywhere anyway, ha! You are still crazy, too.:chuckles:

How can trust be earned if an encounter with someone is met with hostility? That's why I am parking my ass where I know the territory and the people - I have the trust currency where I live, so no need to get nuts and venture out to the unknown. If 21 days go by in my house and nobody is sick and nobody comes and goes, then I would call that a pretty successful plan. I got an extra freezer and an extra tank of propane - if shit starts to get crazy here, I am going to Ralphs/Costco and buying a bunch of booze (for trade, of course) and a ton of steaks. If I am holed up at home, there will be meat eaten.

If survival 101 is avoid people, isn't the hunker down approach superior to blasting a border patrol officer? That's why you need Jigo anyway. He is the token white guy who can speak to other paranoid token white guys. Think of it as a way to help you save ammo:chuckles:

If some crazy dude Jack knocked on my door and asked for food, I would do something equally crazy: I would survey the amount of food that I had and likely give it to him (through a window or some shit b/c I don't want any damn Ebola). That's how I roll. This "Jack" guy will see me, he will hear my alpha and respect my gangster, and he will pick an old lady down the street if he is looking to rob/steal. I am not an easy mark, and the sign in my lawn that says I am armed might be a lie or the truth, so he'll move on.

Your experiences are intense, and they have molded you into the man that you have become. I just don't want you blasting a border patrol agent when you can have Jigo white-talk him into going away. Plus, Jigo can always text me and you all could come through after it's all said and done. I like to BBQ.

As far as the video games, that temporary reprieve was probably nice, but what helped you escape poverty, destitution, and unemployment was running TOWARD the problem, not avoiding it, no? You did things to be in control of your life - got educated, got worldly, got networked, and ran between the tackles toward the things that sucked around you, ran them over, and built a world with people in it that you trust/love. The video games were just the times in-between the plays, and we are all entitled to hobbies and recharging our batteries.

I don't see where I assumed anyone's life was easy. I don't get that at all. I know that it says it isn't directed at me, but then it sounds like it is right at me? If it isn't, then who did assume that anyone else's life was easy? What does that have to do with a plan to blast a border patrol dude, go into the middle of Canada, and potentially mow down a room full of people if you feel that your family is threatened (what if you are wrong?)?

So once again, you can find me away from the hard-knock Cleveland people, letting the panic die down because that's me staying true to my values, and taking control of the situation in the way that I best see fit.

PS - I'll give you 10:1 odds that if you shoot anyone, Jigo will shit his pants.

You know what sucks... I heard Kiev was a tastic place to hang out, along with the Czech Republic (Prague specifically).. I have a friend who visited there just last year and he absolutely loved it. Said the women were amazing and extremely friendly..

I don't get it..does that mean they liked to be very good friends?! It's wonderful to have friends!

Gouri, I'm in... I'll let you chop off my leg and I'll be the wise guy on crutches

If you guys need someone to do the heinous things nobody else is willing to do all in the name of the greater good of the group, I'm in.

Can I be the useless fuck who everybody hates that just continues to live for the duration of the show... er situation, just to annoy the audience... er general populous?

CDC Director: Ebola Outbreak ‘Is Spiraling Out Of Control’
September 2, 2014 12:04 PM

ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta/AP) — The director for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention says that the Ebola outbreak is going to get worse.

Speaking to “CBS This Morning” following his trip to the West African countries dealing with the outbreak, Dr. Tom Frieden explained that they have to act now to try to get Ebola under control.

“It is the world’s first Ebola epidemic and it is spiraling out of control. It’s bad now and it’s going to get worse in the very near future,” Frieden told CBS News. “There is still a window of opportunity to tamp it down, but that window is closing. We really have to act now.”

Frieden, who visited Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, will tell Washington tomorrow that the Ebola outbreak is “spiraling upward.” The CDC director explained that these countries still need help to deal with the deadly outbreak.

“We need to support countries with resources, with technical experts and with cooperation. Too many places are sealing off these countries,” Frieden told CBS News. “If we do that, paradoxically, it’s going to reduce safety everywhere else. Whether we like it or not, we’re all connected and it’s in our interest to help them tamp this down and control it.”

Frieden said that they cannot wait for vaccines to deal with the disease.

“Vaccines and treatments may come along, but right now what we have are tried and true methods that we have to scale up. They have worked in prior outbreaks but we are not getting to scale,” Frieden told “CBS This Morning.” “The epidemic is going faster than we are. We need to scale up our response. We can hope for new tools and maybe they’ll come, but we can’t count on them.”

U.S. to Commit Up to 3,000 Troops to Fight Ebola in Africa
By HELENE COOPER, MICHAEL D. SHEAR and DENISE GRADYSEPT. 15, 2014
  • WASHINGTON — Under pressure to do more to confront the Ebola outbreak sweeping across West Africa, President Obama on Tuesday is to announce an expansion of military and medical resources to combat the spread of the deadly virus, administration officials said.

The president will go beyond the 25-bed portable hospital that Pentagon officials said they would establish in Liberia, one of the three West African countries ravaged by the disease, officials said. Mr. Obama will offer help to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia in the construction of as many as 17 Ebola treatment centers in the region, with about 1,700 treatment beds.

Senior administration officials said Monday night that the Department of Defense would open a joint command operation in Monrovia, Liberia, to coordinate the international effort to combat the disease. The military will also provide engineers to help construct the additional treatment facilities and will send enough people to train up to 500 health care workers a week to deal with the crisis.

Officials said the military expected to send as many as 3,000 people to Africa to take charge of responding to the Ebola outbreak.

“We all recognize that this is such an extraordinary, serious epidemic,” a senior official told reporters, speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of Mr. Obama’s public remarks on Tuesday. The efforts should turn the tide from a high-transmission epidemic that continues to grow every day, other officials said.

The White House plan would increase the number of doctors and other health care workers being sent to West Africa from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other American agencies, officials said.

The American government will also provide 400,000 Ebola home health and treatment kits to Liberia, as well as tens of thousands of kits intended to test whether people have the disease. The Pentagon will provide some logistical equipment for health workers going to West Africa and what administration officials described as “command and control” organizational assistance on how to coordinate the overall relief work. The Army Corps of Engineers is expected to be part of the Defense Department effort.

Administration officials did not say how soon the 17 treatment centers would be built in Liberia; officials there, as well as international aid officials, have said that 1,000 beds are needed in Liberia in the next week alone to contain a disease that has been spreading exponentially.

CDC issues Ebola checklist: 'Now is the time to prepare'

TOPICS: WASHINGTON SECRETS FEMA HHS CDC EBOLA

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, warning hospitals and doctors that “now is the time to prepare,” has issued a six-page Ebola “checklist” to help healthcare workers quickly determine if patients are infected.

While the CDC does not believe that there are new cases of Ebola in the United States, the assumption in the checklist is that it is only a matter of time before the virus hits home.

For example, one part reads: “Encourage healthcare personnel to use a ‘buddy system’ when caring for patients.” Another recommends a process to report cases to top officials:

Plan for regular situational briefs for decision-makers, including:

-- Suspected and confirmed EVD patients who have been identified and reported to public health authorities.

-- Isolation, quarantine and exposure reports.

-- Supplies and logistical challenges.

-- Personnel status, and policy decisions on contingency plans and staffing.

The checklist has been distributed to major hospitals and even little ones, including an urgent center in Leesburg, Va.

“Every hospital should ensure that it can detect a patient with Ebola, protect healthcare workers so they can safely care for the patient, and respond in a coordinated fashion,” warns the CDC.

“While we are not aware of any domestic Ebola Virus Disease cases (other than two American citizens who were medically evacuated to the United States), now is the time to prepare, as it is possible that individuals with EVD in West Africa may travel to the United States, exhibit signs and symptoms of EVD, and present to facilities,” it adds.

Several hospital and medical websites have just begun to post the checklist online.

U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT ORDERS 160,000 EBOLA HAZMAT SUITS
Bulk purchase prompts concerns about spread of deadly epidemic

The U.S. State Department has ordered 160,000 Hazmat suits for Ebola, prompting concerns that the federal government is anticipating the rapid spread of a virus that has already claimed an unprecedented number of lives.

In a press release posted by Market Watch, Lakeland Industries, a manufacturer of industrial protective clothing for first responders, announced that it had signaled its intention “to join the fight against the spread of Ebola” by encouraging other suppliers to meet the huge demand created by the U.S. State Department’s order of 160,000 hazmat suits.

“With the U.S. State Department alone putting out a bid for 160,000 suits, we encourage all protective apparel companies to increase their manufacturing capacity for sealed seam garments so that our industry can do its part in addressing this threat to global health,” states the press release.

The huge bulk order of hazmat suits for Ebola has stoked concerns that the U.S. government expects the virus to continue to ravage countries in west Africa and may also be concerned about an outbreak inside the United States.

Although the State Department has announced that it is planning a “surge” of emergency medical personnel into western Africa, only 1400 federal workers are currently in the region, suggesting that the 160,000 figure is far higher than what would be required merely for sending medical workers abroad.

In a related story, sources from within the Department of Defense have questioned why the Obama administration is implementing a military response to the Ebola epidemic when USAID and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are already involved in relief efforts.

“We don’t need to be taking planners away from the CT [counterterrorism] mission, and that is what is going on,” the Defense Department source told Fox News.

As we reported last week, top German virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit caused consternation when he suggested that the battle against Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia was lost and that the virus would eventually kill 5 million people.

Evidence that the virus has mutated has led to fears that Ebola could have gone airborne to at least a limited extent.

In an op-ed for the New York Times, Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, notes that, “there has been more human-to-human transmission in the past four months than most likely occurred in the last 500 to 1,000 years.”

Osterholm says the premise that Ebola could mutate to become transmissible through the air is a possibility “that virologists are loath to discuss openly but are definitely considering in private.”

So...we're putting "boots on the ground" who will have close contact with a highly transmissible, deadly disease?

Man, talk about your shitty duty stations....
