Eurotrip

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Cratylus thanks for the suggestion. Googled the place and it looks pretty awesome. We're definitely going to make a reservation for their Icebar as well. Only costs about eight bucks and includes a cocktail. Gotta love European prices. In Vegas going to one of those places is ridiculous.

Read an article the other day that said there is a good chance the dollar will be worth more than the Euro come summer.. gotta love that exchange rate

Do you guys have any advice as to travel backpacks? I feel like it would be a better idea to invest in a good backpack than to try to wheel around my current suitcase for three weeks. I'm not terribly concerned about price, as I plan to travel more going forward and, thus, will probably use a good backpack more in the future. Right now I'm looking at the Osprey Farpoint, as it has gotten great reviews and seems to be pretty much exactly what I'd be looking for, but any suggestions are appreciated.

Fuck wheels. If you wanna travel and be free, you need a good backpack.

Any of you guys have any experience renting apartments in Europe? I've been browsing airbnb.com and this kind of seems like the way to go for a lot of our trip. You're basically paying less than you would for most hotels to stay in an actual apartment, generally located near all the top tourist spots in whatever city you're in. The prices seem to range from about sixty to a hundred dollars a night for a two bedroom apartment. Some are obviously way more expensive, but most are reasonably priced. Most of them are cleaned between guests, provide you with linens and bath towels, free wifi, and the list goes on. It honestly sounds pretty awesome.

I'd go airbnb as well. Couchsurfing is good also, but more difficult if you have a big group of friends. It's a really nice way to travel though.

As for the bag, I live in Europe and have European brands, I don't know shit about backpack brands in the US :)

But usually, a 60 to 70 liter bag is all you need, with good straps and mucho pockets!

Yeah, I went ahead and bought a 70 liter Osprey Farpoint travel backpack. It has a second detachable backpack to use as a carry on as well, which was one of the main selling points for me. The thing is really cool. It has a hidden lining that you can use to zip up the back straps as well so you don't have to worry about them getting abused or torn when checking the bag on flights.

As far as the trip goes, it's starting to shape up now.

We're planning to hit:
Berlin
Prague
Budapest
Split
Dubrovnik
Rome
Amsterdam
Brussels
Dublin

Split, Dubrovnik, and Dublin will all probably only be one day/night.

Look into hostels as well. If you spend some time searching, you can get rooms CHEAP. When I did my trip it averaged out to around $26/night for accommodations between the four places I stayed, and two of the four included a small breakfast in their price. It's probably a little more expensive now, but it's worth looking into.

Yeah, we're planning on using hostels when it's not price efficient to rent apartments.

So if the Cavs make the Finals, what will my options be for watching them overseas? We have plenty of Euro fans here, so hopefully someone can tell me. Everyone on this trip is a Cavs fan, so we'll all be more than willing to stay up as late as necessary to watch the games. Are they nationally televised and easy to find in most European countries? Do certain bars stay open to show the games?

The Finals are supposed to start on June 4th, so we'll be leaving the day after game two more than likely.

I depends on which country you'll be at the time.

In Belgium, NBA is broadcasted by a private company, so you need a contract to watch it. I guess some countries have it on public TV.

But anyways, type NBA live online in Google, and you'll be a happy man.

Well, depending on how many games the Finals go to, I would be in Berlin for games three and possibly four, Prague for four and five, and possibly Split or Dubrovnik for games six and seven, or Amsterdam if they stretch out the schedule and give teams two days off between some games. Game two, assuming there's the standard one day in between games one and two, will be broadcast the night before I leave. The Finals should be done before we get to Belgium on the 21st, though.

So I'll be in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, and possibly the Netherlands during Finals games. On the plus side, all the cities are in the same time zone, so I won't have to juggle that in addition to finding where to watch.

Have no idea who broadcasts the NBA in those countries. NBA live online will be your friend
