Evan Turner - Stays or Goes?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's not 100%, but everyone "in the know" is predicting one. Just looking at the owners' proposal for the new CBA shows it's not going to be a quick negotiation process.

As for "following the heart", and lot of things that people do to "Follow the heart" are stupid things. I'll root for OSU and would love to see him win a national title there, but if he asked me for my advice, I'd advise him to go pro, and I believe most reasonable people should/would advise the same.

Well it isnt the "logical" choice I agree. that isnt always the right choice though. in this case, there is no right choice. It's his life, his career.

I think the NFL skips a season before the NBA does...

No chance.

The fundamental difference is that the NFL is making money. The league is, the owners are, the players are. They all have a vested interest in keeping the league going. Too much money for too many people at stake. They won't have a lock-out.

The NBA, however, is bleeding money. The league is hurting, half of the owners are bleeding money and even the teams making money aren't making that much. The players are making money, and they're not gonna want to give it up. It's going to be a long drawn-out fight and there will be a lockout for at least a few months(they may or may not play half the season).

It's 100% sure there will be no NBA season?? People keep saying this, I'd think that'd be plastered all over the news.

I will respect him no matter what he does. Don't call the kid stupid if he wants to follow his heart. If his heart is @ OSU, sure, he will be taking a risk and have to wait another year for his fat paycheck, but he could also be part of something special. I will never fault someone for that..
I think there is an unspoken understanding around the league that a lockout is very likely and it's staying unspoken for now because the CBA negotiations are still going on and the lockout is over a year away anyway. I can't remember the exact quote but during AS weekend Cuban basically came out and admitted that a lockout is essentially inevitable and he seems like one of the few people around the league who will tell it like it is.

Regardless, he definitely should leave. Like IBWT said, his stock can't get much higher (he wouldn't be a lock for the #1 pick in the 2011 draft), and with the likely lockout plus the injury risk....leaving is simply a much better choice.

edit: not saying he's guaranteed to leave, though. I wouldn't be that surprised if he came back.....but I don't think he should.

All I'm saying is as an OSU student and fan, I will embrace him with open arms for another season if he decides to come back, rather than hyper analyze how "dumb" of a decision it was for him to stay. Everybody has their own path, their own needs, wants, desires, whatever. Not to get deep on you guys, but the cat should do what he WANTS to do. I know if he stays he will have ESPN pundits and shit ripping his head off. We should stand behind him 100% if he wants to stay though.

He would be incredibly stupid to stay, in all honesty. There's going to be a lock-out next season, next years draft is going to be a terrible time to try and turn pro. Turner will be chosen in the top 3 this year, his draft stock is as high as it's going to get. He's ready to play in the NBA. It's time to move on, Evan. It's time to get paid.

And who are you? His Agent?

As I stated, I don't think there is any debate that is the logical decision.

That's what the break up text from my first girlfriend said.

I can't think of a projected top 2-3 pick that has ended up staying in school, can anyone else? It would be unprecedented, but if anyone was to do it it would be someone like Evan Turner. I would LOVE if he came back, it would set such a good example for student athletes, oh and that potential national championship next year would be nice. :)

Tim Duncan

What I can tell you is that he is not NBA ready. He needs to improve his outside jump-shot and definitely needs to improve his ball handling skills.

just like 90% others in the draft

Turner would be stupid to stay, this is the highest he'll be drafted

Get drafted #2..

Or come back, win a national title with your OSU brethren, go out on top, and get drafted #2 or maybe #1.

Hmmm. :)

Yeah I know this. I never said that he needs to stay, I just gave my point of view and know he wants to make an impact right away in the NBA and I don't think he will.

And did you not read the rest of my post? That 2nd line you have there is exactly what I said. However it depends on your standpoint of stupid.

I don't see why it would be deemed as "stupid". There is nothing stupid about going back to college and receiving a degree. I don't see anything wrong with going back to college to finish off your career as a student and as a player, and to do something special, like Doug has already stated. Our entire Starting line up would be coming back if he were to as well, and add to that a top recruiting class in the nation.
If he stays and shows more improvement on his jumper (because this year he really did improve his shot, his mid range is deadly. Also showed he can hit 3s when needed), he would easily be the #1 pick imo.
