Fantasy Basketball Thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
By spread, I mean the pick I would actually lose because of the keeper versus where they would potentially be drafted if they were available. It's a 12 team league with 13 players per - so fairly deep.

For example, if I keep Sanders, I lose my 13th round pick. Who cares, right? If he was available, he may go in the 5th round (just guessing). That spread is 8 rounds - 8 rounds of value on that keeper. I lose a 5th if I keep Wall. If he were to go in the 2nd round, there may not be as much value.

Probably all moot as it seems Jigo locked in our keepers leading up to tomorrow night's draft.

I'm not sure I agree with you there. Fantasy basketball is very much a game of star power, and having effectively two second-round picks (Wall and whoever you pick with your actual second-rounder) is much more valuable than having two fifth round picks (say Sanders and your actual pick). Wall, if healthy, is going to put up superstar numbers in points and assists, and he will also rebound well, shoot at a solid percentage (for a PG), and get to the free throw line. Are you going to pick a guy in the fifth round who is anywhere near as valuable as Wall will be this season? Doubtful.

For what it's worth, I would take Wall and Sanders. I think those two give you the best value for picks lost.

I say Wall and Sanders as well CCF. Like Brickman said up there, Washington IS Wall and Beal generating their offense and Wall rebounds well for a guard too. Their 3rd guard (Maynor) is not a penetrator/creator as much as he is a system setup guy in a new system... so Wall and Beal are going to be pretty much all of Washington's usage for initiating offense.

Mad at myself for not getting in with you guys when it was offered back in like '10/'11.

Here is my thinking on Sanders and Kawhi. Both guys are at 3rd round grades. I would lose the 13th and 10th round picks respectively. With keeping these 2, I would essentially get 3 Third round picks (plus, I have the first pick in this draft, so it would be Picks 1, 24, 25 + Kawhi and Sanders before the 4th round begins). I could still even draft Wall with one of those back-to-backs, but doubtful he lasts that long.

I see what you're saying with keeping Wall though. I actually had Wall and Sanders as my original combo.

I don't think sanders should go that high in your league considering the 2 additional categories, and that Kawhi is more valuable than him. I think Kawhi is the best option, and either Green or Wall with the second.

I was offered Ginobili & O. Asik for Oladipo in a league I'm in. I'm torn. Ginobili is fading and Asik will likely drop off from last year with Howard in Houston but it's still a decent offer. Oladipo could put up good all around numbers but I'm never sure if I should count on rookies. I'd probably drop Kris Humphries who I took with my last pick if I take the offer.
Should I accept or reject the offer?

I wouldn't even consider it. I'd say I wouldn't even consider it UNTIL you see Dipo actually playing, but I've seen him play a million times and I'm positive he's going to be a very solid player at the minimum. I'm just as confident Dipo will be a very good rookie as I am that Ginboli and Asik will be average.

Dipo could put up Iguodala-ish numbers. Decline.

I've got Dipo in two leagues now and I'll take offers, but I'm certainly not trading him before the season starts.

So, I'm doing fantasy basketball for the first time. Unfortunately, it is for money right off the bat.

That said, what should my strategy be paying close attention to? What are the most important factors I should be looking at when deciding who to draft/who to play on the day-to-day... I really am at the ground floor here.

I would say the most important factor is how good a player is.

Wow, that's a sweet team. I honestly don't see many changes that need to be made there. I'd ride with that for the first few weeks and see if you're dominant or just above average. I'd think dominant.

Right now, the NBA is really deep at every position but SF as far as fantasy goes. Center is a little thin, but a lot of PF's qualify as centers, so it's not really a huge issue. I would make sure to lock up your assists early, because rebounds and three pointers are available all over the draft. Steals generally come along with assists and blocks generally come along with rebounds. Then there's the few guys out there that can get you a little of both.

I'd recommend going BPA for the first 3 rounds and then focusing on rounding out the roster. Some of the subtleties to look for are...

(1) Players who produce in categories that aren't real common for their position. So for example...bigs that can get assists and PG's that can rebound are always a great way to fill up the stat sheet
(2) Most rankings severely underrate guys who are extremely poor in one category and throw them into the 50's and 60's in some cases. There are two bigs in particular that they do this with and this year there is a PG that falls into this category big time. See if you can figure out who I'm talking about.
(3) Pick one or two categories to punt. Most common are TO's and FT%. This allows you to focus on strengthening yourself in 6-7 categories without picking up average quality guys who are good at not getting TO's and good at shooting FT's when in reality, you're never going to win those cats anyways.
(4) Take chances on some rookies or younger "injury prone" guys late rather than old retread guys like Dalembert and Kaman. If you need Dalembert and dudes like that, they'll be there on the waiver wire.
(5) Guys that can produce in multiple categories like Batum and Iguodala are great, but they're useless unless you grab 2-3 other guys that can dominate in those same categories. Last thing you want to do is get stuck with a bunch of jacks of all trades and fall into the middle of the league.

Anyone have a list of who's injured and for how long?

Bunch of sites have it, like ESPN and whatnot, but it still takes some detective work.
