Farewell to Sergey Karasev

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!

He should have played for Canton tonight if Mike Brown wasn't going to give him minutes here. Player development is not really our strong suit, apparently.

Fixed :chuckles:

Honestly don't understand how this shit is happening. Eventually an order has to come from above, right? At least give him a few minutes. He's too talented to be getting all these DNP-CD's. Either play him here or leave him in Canton. It's common sense. I know Mike doesn't get it, but Griffin or Gilbert have to, right? Right??

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Mike Brown has always been an easy target for questionable rotation decisions. I also expected more Karasev while CJ and Dion were both out. At the same time, the team was also trying to get Hawes acclimated without much familiarity or practice, and on the road in a loud arena. I just hope we see some Karasev in the next game.

I do too, but I think Brown is scared to play him due to defensive concerns. I know we are trying to make the playoffs, but we spent a first round pick on this guy, and he has one of the (if not the best) shooting stroke on the team. I dont think 15 minutes a night while Waiters and CJ is out is asking too much. If we find ourselves 5 games or more out of the playoffs by mid March, we better use the rest of the year to develop Bennett and Karasev!

Right now we are kind of in limbo, still in the playoff chase, but a bad week of basketball away from being in player development mode.
In an ideal world, you find time for him during a playoff push and he actually sees some minutes in a playoff series, but I am not holding my breath!

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Interesting how Griffin mentioned Karasev by name during the press conference after we acquired Hawes, and the first game after that presser, Karasev doesn't see the floor.

Brown and Griffin standoff?

Really interested to see if Karasev plays Sunday. If yes, it might be a demand from Griffin himself.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

It would be hilarious if we're not playing him because of defensive concerns, seeing as we already have multiple players who are proven defensive liabilities on the floor at any given time.

Right. Worried that Karasev may be "a defensive liability" and then playing Jarrett Jack for 40 minutes makes no sense.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Karasev needs an off season to work on his body. He's not exactly jimmer fredette out there. He's not going to see playing time this year. The cavs are competing for the play offs. If brown was going to play him he would of given him time at the beginning of the year, not during the play off run.

But we're down to 3 guards... why would you not use him even if just for short stretches?

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

When down to 2 guards brown may use him. A 3 guard rotation is a play off rotation.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Karasev's passing, shooting, and high IQ are an asset to this team. I know Mike Brown doesn't like rookies, but Dellavedova, an undrafted rookie, has been repeatedly favored over the 19th pick in the draft. Sergey was the only shooting guard available last night. And don't even get me started about playing Jack 41 minutes last night. That's inexcusable. Jack is a known commodity. His offense and defense stinks. He's not going to help us get into the playoffs, and he's taking away precious developmental minutes. If it was up to Mike Brown's "feelings," Bennett, like Karasev, would be riding the pine right now, too.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

He also bring exciting intangibles on the other end of the court, like consistently trying to play defense, and being tall enough to contest the shots of opposing players.

I just wanna know how people know so much about this guy. Is he doing well in Canton?

Yeah from what I've seen of him, he is sort of sneaky athletic. Like you think he would be terrible at defense but then he suddenly blocks your shot.

I'm not sure why he isn't playing. I can see Sergey being sort of lazy in practice, or rather, looking lazy in practice. But that is sort of Sergey's game. He is a glider, not a water bug like Delly.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

I'm guessing he isn't playing because he doesn't have NBA strength yet, but I predicted at the beginning of the season Brown wouldn't want to play him. Once fans see him make shots and play exciting ball on the offensive end, they wouldn't want to see him return to the end of the bench. Still, this is the exact scenario you need him to play. The team can't put Gee and Delly out there together.
