Favorite Mario games.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Super Mario 3D Land for 3DS is a mindblowing game. It literally made me say "wow."

I haven't been the biggest fan of the 3D Mario games, but this truly makes you feel like you are playing the 2D Mario games we all grew up with in 3D.

I had the most fun playing Mario Kart for N64. Nothing even comes remotely close to it.

1. Mario 3
2. Super Mario World
3. Mario Kart
4. Mario 1
5. Mario 2

Crap I am old. These are all 80s and 90s games...

1. Link to the Past
2. Legend of Zelda

Screw you Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link! That game was impossible.

NES shout out to BattleToads and Skate or Die.

EDIT to add: I bought a Wii U and have been playing New Super Mario Bros w my nephew. The force is strong with that one. I recommend the U to anyone with kids.

If we're talking straight Mario Kart, I'd go Mario Kart: Double Dash in a heartbeat. We used to play that game in college all the time and I fucking dominated it. I loved having two drivers so you could stash a second item. I always picked Donkey and Diddy Kong and just dominated people with the giant banana special item they had.

I was also the asshole who would hit the brakes whenever someone grabbed a blue shell and let someone else suffer that wrath. :chuckle:

It doesn't hold a place in the 'Mario' discussion of the 80's, but I always look back fondly on playing Mario Golf with my Dad on the N64. We put tons of time into it, and just always had a lot of fun doing so. My Dad pretty much abhors gaming in general so it was pretty cool.

same with my dad except with mario kart 64, great memories

1) Super Mario 3
2) Super Mario World
3) Super Mario 2
4) Super Mario RPG
5) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
6) Super Mario Land
7) Super Mario Bros
8) Super Mario 64
9) Paper Mario
10) Super Mario Bros: Lost Levels

Gour, you fascinate me, man. Where do you find the time to be an expert/well-versed on every topic brought up on RCF?

Anyone remember Mario Superstar Baseball for GameCube?

I was a beast in it.

My little brother and I would come to blows over that game on like a daily basis. We had drafting rules, etiquette when playing, all the good stuff. I could probably build my dream team right on the spot even still.

Who's your dream team?

Mine would be Bowser, Donkey Kong and the plant guy lol.

It's funny, but I consider myself an expert on very few things (certain areas of science and math are the only two).

But video games.. well. I used to own a video game store in Cleveland Heights. We had tournaments regularly; one of which was called King of Games which was focused on single player games or single player portions of multiplayer games.

KoG tourneys were basically old school speedruns, with preset conditions.

We also had regular Halo 2, among other, tournaments, so this was literally day to day life for me for almost two years.

Games I consider myself to be able to compete, but not necessarily win (there are some really great speedrunners online) with basically anyone would be:

I bolded those games where I feel I would have a strong advantage in almost any random encounter.

1) Mario 1,2,3, SMW
2) Yoshi's Tetris Attack / Panel de Pon
3) Sonic 1,2,3 & Knuckles
4) Ninja Gaiden 1,2,3 NES
5) Kid Chameleon

6) Double Dragon 1,2,3
7) Bad Dudes
8) TMNT: Hyperstone and Turtles in Time
9) Metal Slug 1,2,3
10) Ikaruga
11) Radiant Silvergun
12) Metroid
13) Zelda 1
,2,3
14) Castlevania (all NES)
15) Super Castlevania
16) Castlevania - Dracula X (Turbo Duo)
17) Bonk's Adventure
18) Ghostbusters SMS & Genesis
19) Phantasy Star I & IV
20) Final Fantasy I, IV
, VI, VII, VIII, X, & XII
21) Chrono Trigger

22) Chrono Cross
23) Star Ocean I-III
24) Xenogears

25) PSO
26) Halo 2, ODST, Halo Wars
27) Doom 3
28) Strider (including PSX version)
29) Mirror's Edge
30) Street Fighter
(any and all, and at the highest levels of competitive play).

This. I have an emulator on my original Xbox for it and used to play it a lot in college. My roomate and I would play it and literally wake other people up in our apartment complex at 3am because the games were so competitive.

I love the mirrored courses and I often tried to break my own speed records.

I just got the game last night and its so good. The way its set up with 8 worlds and stages in each one like an old school mario is great. Super Mario 3D world for the Wii U is really good too.

My favorite all time has still got to be Super Mario 64. Its probably in my top three games of all time.
