Favorite Sub & Sandwich Shops

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I mentioned this on the Hoyer thread before i saw this one. But I am very surprised nobody has mentioned Grumm's over on Coventry. They were the best on case campus back in the 80's. Two years ago i was passing through Clevo with my youngest son(21) and took him to Grumm's for the hell of it. Was still awesome. If you havent tried it, do so and then tell me you still prefer Jimmy Johns...

There used to be another place on Coventry that did Po' Boys, but I dont know if it is still there.

Sorry, I'm not sure I follow.

A few posts before yours, someone mentioned that if the place has an apostrophe in the name, it's probably real good.

Oh shit, no idea how I missed that. I actually did read the thread too, apparently just not very well.

In that case, yeah, the rule seems to work. I like it.

Surprised Subway gets bagged on so much. Their italian BMT on toasted italian bread with lettuce, tomato, black olives, red wine vinaigrette and salt/pepper is amazing.

Any sub place that delivers and isn't named Jimmy John's earns high marks. Thanks, Dave's, you greasy, delicious mess.

The only issue I have with them is that their side pickles are disgusting. It's as if they started pickling a cucumber, got bored halfway through, quartered it, and tossed some salt on it to try and cover their tracks.

The internet sure knows everything we're doing.

Got a Jimmy John's ad at the top of my screen. Thanks Ben!!!

Wholeheartedly disagree. The pickle is my favorite part. It's a classic deli pickle, that's how it's supposed to be.

When it comes to pickles, Corky & Lenny's is the best.

And over time their sandwiches have gotten under-rated as people have gradually decided that Corky & Lenny's itself is overrated.

Does C&L's still serve the big saucer of pickles?

Nice call on Corky's, i grew up on that place, my Grandma used to be friends of the owners before they passed. Still the best Jewish Deli that i know of in NE Ohio. But Jewish deli is a very specific taste, one that i am a huge fan of, but i get why some find them "over priced"

Someone brought up McAllister's... can't believe we missed that one. They're pricey, but my god they're fantastic. Wish they had more locations up north as it seems they are more prevalent in the south.

DiBella's and Potbelly's are also very solid choices, but they are also few and far between. Dave's Cosmic Subs has a location near me in Perrysburg (Toledo area) and I couldn't be happier about that. When I moved here from Cleveland that was one (of many) food places I thought I would have to leave behind. They have a really crappy location down here though so I'm hoping they are able to stay in business.

Classic Italian Sub: DiBella's
Meatball Sub: Gallucci's
Corned Beef: Slyman's
Overall Best: Publix

Yeah, Publix is fantastic and I can't imagine there's a better large chain grocery store around either.

Do they have these in OH? Thought they were only in the SE. I miss this place badly from when we were in FL. The meat selection was excellent, seafood was always high quality and their subs and other freshly prepared foods were excellent.

Employees are well taken care of there as well. Great business model.

I don't think they go north of the Mason-Dixon Line, but man are they delicious. Their Cuban haunts my dreams.

Tony Packo's pickles are absolutely amazing. And their M.O.A.D. dog.

It's more on the west side of the state and SE Michigan area, but I have to throw my hat in the ring for Mancino's grinders. Damn those are good.

Mancino's grinders are amazing. Their pizza too, along with Amie's (used to be owned by same person)

I don't know if it was because I was always wasted when I used to live in Akron, but Euro Gyro's was always great.

Anyone still from Akron...does Luigi's have subs? I bet they would be good.
