Favors and Harris to Utah for Deron Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Depending on free agency and maybe a potential lockout-the nets could be drafting in the lotto in 2012! And with the way the Rockets seem to be headed they will finish outside of the lotto but likely in the 10-15 range. Thats two top 15 picks in the stacked 2012 draft.

The NBA is a freaking joke and I really feel bad for its older fans. If every star gravitates towards 3-4 teams, the league is going to lose big time on this. They better wake up and change something before this gets out of control.

I understand thinking this because of teams like Miami and the Celtics, but I'm not sure how it fits in this trade. . . DWill didn't join any superstar, perennial all-star, or borderline all-star (you could make a case for Lopez but I'd say he's about as much of a star as Al Jefferson or Andrea Barg are :chuckles: )

Because he began talking about leaving for a NY team two years before his contract was up. Utah was either going to have him demand which team he wants to join (killing their leverage) or trade him now and start rebuilding.

well, considering the Knicks won't have the money to sign DWill, not sure what kind of leverage anyone has in that situation. . . and again, Dwill never said anything about the Knicks, just another "Source" talking out of his ass and trying to snowball things to go the media's way

According to the Jazz beat writer's twitter account, Deron is not happy about how this went down. Didn't receive any calls from the Jazz, learned about it on Sportscenter and made the calls himself to confirm.

I definitely think Dwight is out and of course so is CP3, but I don't think the Lakers are the destination for Dwight... In fact, I think you're starting to see where new and different franchises are becoming the "it" thing... New York and Brooklyn will definitely have big time talents and I think Chicago is obviously going to blow up as well... I don't think these players care to keep the Lakers relevant, so I don't think you're going to see players flock there like Laker fans want to believe--- the Clippers are far more intriguing and I can see that as being the team players will want to take a look at if the opportunity presents itself and pending of course Donald Sterling not messing it up...

Orlando is an interesting collapse because they were forecasted as being the "it" team moving forward just 2 seasons ago.... Building that new arena and having a fairly young and talented team-- but, as of right now, they cannot compete with the movement that is taking place in the NBA.... Orlando just isn't seen as sexy as what is about to happen in New York and what can potentially happen in Brooklyn... I don't see players flocking to Orlando...

Go get 'em, Otis...

The real loser in this trade is the Knicks. They may have been able to pry Deron from Utah and then sign Melo in the offseason. Instead of having the number 1 maybe number 2 pg in the game to go along with Amare they are stuck with maybe a top 15 player in Melo. I think I may be being generous.

In a world with no cap space rules, I agree. . .

They can't because they become RFAs after their rookie deals.

I know that but I mean playing through their rookie deal, accepting their team's qualifying offer and then bolting after that. Players always seem to sign an extension at that point rather than play on a 1-year deal but if they see teams make trades like this more and more to regain control of the situation, leaving after RFA could be their response. There is no way this is going to get better...

Well, that's why it's also up to the GMs to make the right choices. GMs get around 7-8 years to build a team around their star player. If after 7-8 years they fail to do so, the player should have every right to go somewhere else and try his luck before he's too old to be a factor.

We're all lucky they're cap space rules, but even with them teams and players are prepared to go to extreme measures to take their chances... And it's the rules and the demands/threats of the players that are dictating the use of the resources...

The Cavs may have been better off not pulling the trigger on a few moves while keeping a better pulse of the future landscape, but keeping the star happy was the driving force... Same in Orlando-- Perhaps they would be better off pulling back a bit and going into a mini rebuild situation, but obviously the major hurdle is doing so while being able to retain their star player and gauging his patience...

I think Otis has been doing both. . . this team will be fairly competitive for the next year or two (maybe an ECF appearance if they get lucky) and by the time Dwight's contract is up the team will most likely have the $$$ to sign both Dwight and another max FA.

The only teams I'm worried about grabbing Dwight are the Thunder and Clippers, however I'm pretty sure Sterling is going to screw it all up eventually

Deron Williams is livid about the trade and has reportedly refused to board a plane bound for New Jersey. Sadly, he will have to accept his fate - trade is finalized.

:chuckles: what is he, 5? I DONT WANNA
