Fighting Aging?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Look into food combining.

Get rid of simple carbs, especially when mixed with protein. Start eating more fish and adding quality vegetables like Broccoli, Cabbage, Beets, etc..mainly vegetables with low glycemic diet.

Get rid of starches like potatoes.

Add complex carbs and whole foods, but don't go overboard. Phytonutrients are real and can damage you if you have a weak immune system and a weak gut. Add them slowly because their micro nutrients are priceless...this will also make you not need any stupid supplements.

Look into fermented foods like Sauerkraut and even Kefir to build your micro biome. I believe it all starts in the gut. Physical and Mental health and sickness.

Eliminate sugar and processed foods. Can eat a fruit or two a day. That's it. Oh, eliminate dairy if it is pasteurised.

My health started to deteriorate after I had been found with bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori and an ulcer. Never been the same since then.

Also, in regards to biome and everything. Keep your gums and teeth healthy. They are finding more and more evidence that heart disease and gum disease are closely linked and some of the heart related smoking diseases are at least partially due to bad gums and teeth and plaque buildup.

They are telling bypass patients to get their teeth cleaned regularly after they have recovered from surgery and it helps prevent a subsequent attack apparently.

I do believe in the biome stuff. We are going to be seeing alot more bacteria transplant type stuff in the future to cure illnesses.

Agree. I rotate my microbes between kefir, sauerkraut and good yogurt.

For sauerkraut, the only ingredients you need to see (if you don't make your own) is cabbage, water, salt. This is what I get and it tastes really good (to me). I'll even eat it cold out of the jar.

I have a yogurt maker, so I know it is "fresh" and has no additives, then I add in a glop of PB and a glop of honey. Not as convenient to make your own yogurt, but really tasty and blows store yogurt away for taste and texture.

For those who never tried kefir or sauerkraut... go small at first. Small servings. 4-6 oz of kefir, 2-3 spoons/forks of sauerkraut. They are both much more "powerful" then store bought yogurt and can definitely gurgle your stomach or clean you out. But if your goal is to restock or add to your gut microbes... both are very very good at that...better than yogurt (store bought or home-made).

Also, my dog LOVES kefir. I only give him a little bit when I have some (1 tablespoon), but he goes wild for it.

I'm doing yoga right now, and I have cut back on carbs a lot.

Yoga has been crucial for me lately as I get knots in my shoulders. I have a lot more energy not eating carbs. I think I feel happier too. It is weird.

too many carbs are the worst thing about american diet. That's what causes so many health problems.

Too many carbs -> high blood sugar -> too much insulin release (stores carbs as fat) -> too low carbs with extra insulin -> hunger. The more refined the carbs are, the worse this cycle is.

That cycle causes metabolic syndrome, which leads to type 2 diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol problems. And the extra insulin floating around in your blood stream blocks your body from using that fat as energy, so if you do get exercise, you just get hungry again without burning away fat.

The other thing I've done this past year is pay far better attention to my diet. I knew what to do before, but it's too easy to do the wrong thing because unhealthy food is so often more convenient, cheaper and lasts longer than healthy food.

Also so much of what we've been taught about diet is simply wrong. Low fat isn't good for you, fat slows the absorption of carbs, thus combats the cycle above. And so often low fat foods have added carbs. They take out carb slowing benefit of fat and replace it with extra carbs.

There are a lot of diets out there, I tried to just make things really simple. Every time I eat, I try to be close to protein grams = carb grams = 2x fat grams. So for example 20 grams protein, 20 grams carbs, 10 grams fat. For carbs I subtract out fiber and sugar alcohol and use the number that's left. Then try to have the total for the day be in the ballpark of the total I should have for the day. I don't get too crazy about being precise with either, just in the general ballpark.

I also try for healthier options.

I could not agree more. I have also started to eat more complex carbs when I do have carbs. I have found if I go to low carb I have no energy to workout for a hard workout. I have really been trying to focus on the glycemic value of carbs and go for the ones that take longer to digest and keep blood sugar from spiking. It’s amaxing how full I feel after. If I do have a simple carb I always try to do it before I workout or going to be active to make sure my body burns it.

Also look at glycemic load.

It's impossible to get every nutrient at optimal levels without supplements.

Btw, re: the Kahne's sauerkraut... I get it at a local grocery chain - Acme. I have not seen it at Wal mart or Giant Eagle, but I have ordered it online thru Jet - the online grocery store site.

Recently my mouth has been very very dry. I don't notice it during the time or maybe it happens only at night, but I wake up in the middle of the night and my mouth is dry like the desert...cracked lips, bad smell and aching gums. I used to have slight receding gums on the bottom and were also sensitive, but recently it has gotten worse in the upper front teeth. I'm quite worried actually.

Also, I wake up tons of times at night. It's a huge problem.

Today, I realized that maybe I should stop squeezing lemon on my food. I also had been drinking apple cider vinegar with my water in the morning which also contributed to the problem.

I wonder what else I should do or cut. Teeth and gum issues scare the crap out of me because of my mother.

It's tough for sure. But I don't really believe in them. Multi-Vitamin? no way. Zinc and Magnesium are the only ones that I think are necessary because it's tough getting enough from food. What else?

it's really absolutely impossible to get many of them them at optimal levels without supplements. not FDA minimum levels, optimal for health levels. And so many optimal for your health nutrients don't even have any FDA minimum guidelines..

I no longer have it as it was confirmed by a breath test.

My issue is that I was on heavy antibiotics and never got any good bacteria to repopulate my gut. As a result I fear that I developed a crazy imbalance and Candida.

did you try probiotics. And the same stuff i posted also kills candida.

How do you know what's optimal though? do you have any research to show me?

I just don't believe that a lot of the vitamins that we get with multi-vitamins actually get absorbed. There is too much competition. They also overload the liver.
I think you need to take the vitamins separately like you would get them from whole foods.

What do you suggest in that regard? do you buy them separately and if so, which vitamins? or do you mean getting them through a multi vitamin?

Tried probiotics on and off. Didn't do much for me. Now, I will be ordering a good fermentation crock to make my own sauerkraut.

I'm also interested in kefir grains, but where I live we only have ultra pasteurised milk. I believe it's bad for you. We don't have coconut milk or it's very expensive.

Is it good (the think that you linked)? have you tried it, or?
