FINAL FOUR

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nah, I just knew you were celebrating somewhere, is all.

Fab Melo isn't that good either. OSU overachieved a bit this year but whatever. So is Kansas. No way KU should be in the title game.

I wasn't celebrating at all...like I said, I had no rooting interest in the game, just wanted to see a good one. In my opinion, Fab Melo (Big East Defensive POY) would have given the Buckeyes' bigs fits inside...you never know though. The road was favorable for OSU, but it was just as favorable for Kansas in getting UNC without Marshall. I think Kentucky will stomp them.

OSU had a great year, just didn't go their way tonight.

Man fuck I'm very glad I got to see tOSU beat Thug U for the National Championship in person, because that'll be the only Ohio sports championship in my lifetime.

........I'm going to play the age guessing game and say you're under 30?

Don't flame me.

Matta is not a good coach. And you can flip out, go on and scream at me, that say, Painter hasn't done what he's done, all this other crap.

Bottomline, he's had better recruit than 90% of those in the Big Ten, and has really nothing to show for it.

He's won 2 B1G COTY awards, 5 B1G regular season titles, 3 B1G tourney titles and been to 2 Final Fours and 1 national championship game. He's never won less than 20 games at OSU and has won at least 30 games three times in the last six seasons. He's coached 2 B1G Players of the Year, 3 First Team All Americans and one consensus National Player of the Year.

I'd say he has plenty to show for it at this point.

What does Sullinger and his 5-19 have to do with Matta as a coach?

That means nothing without titles. NOTHING. Demote him to recruiter. Bring in the Urban Meyer of College BB.

Sully played a horrible game and Deshaun couldnt stay on the floor due to foul trouble. We FINALLY get something from Willy and our two "stars" shit the bed.

I doubt that he will but I really think Sully needs another year of college ball, his draft status couldnt be any lower than it is right now. He needs to drop some of his baby fat and put on some more muscle. I think one more year would do him aot of good, especially if he is playing his natural position of PF next year with Amir starting at C.

If Sully and Deshaun stay this would be my starting lineup

A Williams
Sully
D Thomas
L Ross
Craft

Sorry but Ohio State wasn't really a high profile basketball program until Matta came in and made it one with his stellar recruiting. There is no big name coach that is going to come here. And even if they did I doubt they'd be as successful as Matta has been. Since our 4 appearances in the final four in the 1960's we had a total of ONE final four appearance before Matta came along. Oh and that was vacated for recruiting violations. If what Matta has done here isn't good enough for you NOTHING will ever be good enough for you. Aren't you the same one complaining about what Dambrot has brought to Akron?

I'm definitely not saying Matta is the best coach. But we're not getting anyone better. And you're really kidding yourself if you think that. OSU basketball is and always will be overshadowed by football.

I can live with Matta's mediocre coaching if it means we always have this much talent. With this much talent we'll always be in the hunt for a National Championship and may pull one out eventually.

No one wants to hear it, but watching the game last night was murder to someone that knows basketball. The poster above was absolutely right: Matta is a world class recruiter, but average coach. At this stage in the game, he gets out coached...we had a cake walk to the final four and relied too much on talent and not game planning.

It is easier to justify OSU losing by saying players that will be gone in 1 month or 2 years mucked it up...why? Because you don't ever want to admit that you have another John Cooper at the helm. Players come and go but everyone wants a stalwart in the head coaching position.

OSU did not lose because of:
Aaron Craft's boneheaded plays at the end of both halves
Jerod Sullinger failed to play the way he needed to
Deshaun Thomas couldn't hit the broad side of the barn

We lost because of lack of correction.
OSU was up by 9 at the half; Self went into the locker room and made adjustments
Matta went into the locker room and said, "Come on guys, let's keep it up and we'll be playing Monday night..."

If you are shooting poorly, take it to the hole.
It's Matta's job to use the tools he has: Bufford was having a good night - so feed him. Tell Sullinger don't take any more fade aways. Tell the team to not only get back on D but to STOP THE BALL. We played like crap in the lane...when you do that, you lose. Thomas/Bufford/Craft/Smith should have taken the ball into the lane right at Withey - get him out the game via foul trouble and all of a sudden Sullinger is a wrecking ball again.

I sat there angry, not because we missed shots or turned the ball over but because we weren't running an offense, we weren't stopping the ball, we weren't thinking - we were relying on talent, not fundamentals and certainly not game planning.

I fucking knew Matta was gonna draw up a 3 point shot too when we were down 3 with like 45 seconds left. So unnecessary. Both of those Thomas shots at the end were atrocious and forced. Why not make a layup and make it a 1 point game? Why force a 3?

He did the same thing last year vs UK too, but we had Diebler then so it made a little more sense.

Seeing the game in person, two things stood out more than anything.

1. Sullinger was NOT hustling whatsoever. I don't know if he was tired or what, but the kid was jogging up in down the floor, taking stupid shots, sulking, just looking flat out miserable.

2. Aaron Craft, for as great as he is defensively, is horrendous on offense. He hit a couple of threes, but man did he make some idiotic attempts at the bucket. What was he thinking attacking Withey on three different occasions? All three times he was rejected, and they all swung momentum of the game.

And going back to Sullinger's body language, it was really their whole team. Once Kansas erased that deficit in the second half, and it became clear that it was going to be a game, you could see the Ohio State players start to tighten up.
