Games you played as a kid that you wish you could play again

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really didn't care much for the N64 at all. There were some decent games, we played Goldeneye or Smash Bros when drinking or something, but there is nothing I would really want to play again now.

Civilization 3 burned me out on the Civ games. I was in college and would say fuck going to class and played that for like 15 hours a day, and when I was done I haven't wanted to play it since.

I guess now would be a good time to bring up what is, in my humble opinion, the greatest game ever made.

Pretty much everything about this game is perfect. The story was simple but captivating. The music was some of the best we're likely to ever get from a video game. The combat was fun and could be challenging at times. The puzzles were fantastic and there were tons of secrets. The visuals, at the time, were absolutely incredible. It was one of the first games I ever played that made my jaw drop from how epic and big the world felt. Stepping out onto Hyrule Field for the first time was amazing.

The time travel mechanic was a great addition to the game, and I loved the twist where Ganondorf tricks you and traps you in time for ten years, only for you to wake up and find your world conquered in the interim. Walking out of the Temple of Time as an adult and being greeted by this site was one gaming moment I'll always remember:

Oh yeah, and did I mention that this game could be goddamn terrifying?

Seriously, fuck those screaming zombie things.

Ocarina of Time remains a game I could pretty much go back and play whenever. It's one of the few games that I consider to be a true masterpiece of the craft, and Nintendo has yet to make a Zelda game that even comes close to comparing to it.

Have not heard about a reboot. I would be first in line for a new Timesplitters or even an updated Timesplitters 2. Don't think I've ever enjoyed a game more in my life.

Unpopular opinion time, but I think the GameCube version of Mario Kart was the best one. I loved the two rider system and how it allowed you to tactically store weapons. It made for much more interesting matches that could be flipped upside down in a split second with the right strategy. We played that game all the time in college.

If you guys are familiar with a game called Drink and Drive, it's a Mario Kart game where you start the race with a full beer. You have to finish the beer by the end of the race, but you have to come to a complete stop on the course and put your controller down before you can drink. It makes for some fun nights. We still play it occasionally even now that I'm several years removed from school.

Anyway, Double Dash was the best Mario Kart game. I could pretty much destroy anyone in it with my Donkey/Diddy Kong combo team.

Still play Drink and Drive today. Heard it called that but also Beerio Kart amongst my friends. Think its best on N64 because you have those crazy specials on Gamecube. Baby Mario and Luigi you can use the special and drop the controller and drink while it drives itself.

Our rule was that you had to come to a complete stop and put your controller down.

I like that rule. Makes you have to go out of your way to actually stop your kart. Ours was you just had to drop the controller, so your kart could "coast" or roll as you were drinking.

I mean, I would usually just chug the entire beer at the start of the race before I even moved. Seemed to be the best strategy. Plus, you get mad blue shells when you're in last.

One of my favorite strategies, by the way, was slamming the brakes whenever I saw someone pick up a blue shell. Let a friend (or AI bot) pass you and absorb that impact and cruise on to victory. My other favorite tactic was leaving those giant DK bananas at the very top of ramps and bridges over pits so that people would hit them and spin into the pit, but then the banana would also split into three smaller bananas to hit other people later. Of course, sometimes you hit your own and it screws you, but at least I knew where to expect them. :chuckles:

Strategically placing banana peels has always been one of the best parts. Especially when you're in first, the only way to screw someone is with a great peel placement.
