Gilbert buying Indians soon ?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To be honest, I'm more excited about the possibility of him getting STO than the Indians. :chuckles:

Take it for what you will, but apparently Dolan was asking for way too much. Gilbert walked away from the deal. Again, that's the latest I heard, so maybe W&G has other details.

Forbes had the Indians valued at 353 million dollars last march......Astros were valued at 474 and they were sold for 610 million dollars which included their tv deal.

Im gonna take a guess that Dolan probably asked for close to 500 million

Source?

Word of mouth. I obviously can't say who or what they do, but this is where it stands now. Doesn't mean it couldn't change down the road, but Dolan had dollar signs in his eyes and it was a little to pricey.

I'm not trying to be this "insider" guy, because, frankly, everyone hates that guy. I'm merely passing along info I heard. Like I said, take it or leave it.

...so what you are saying is that Gilbert couldn't afford the going rate? Good. If he can't pay a few scheckles more to be a MLB owner, then he certainly won't be dumping his own money into the team. Kind of a situation that looks to be resolving itself. Had Gilbert overpaid like he did for the Cavs then maybe I could take him seriously- but apparently he is just busting out old tricks. Next will be the comic sans letter about how it fell apart due to greed...

I would like Gilbert to buy the team but MLB will not allow him to buy the team because of him owning a casino. However, I do think its a good chance that Mark Cuban would be interested in buying the team. As we know the Dolans are cheap and I bet Cuban could get a steal of a deal to be next to his friend Dan Gilbert. Cuban has been actively looking around to buy a mlb. Heck he wanted to buy the Pirates at one point. The freaking Pirates! Anyways, even if Gilbert or Cuban do not buy the Indians, there will be owners out there that would want STO and the Indians. The best thing the Dolans can do is sell the team now before they continue to end up last without having any bad or long term contracts for the 2013 season. The biggest hint is that the Dolans are signing players to minor league contracts like crazy. There will be buyers in the market for a mlb team and I would be shock if the Dolans keep the team past 2013.

I really think Mark Cuban would be better for the Tribe.

Maybe as commissioner...

Until then, your dreams of wild free agent spending with a new owner are pretty much boned.

Holy shit you can't fucking read, can you. I never and I repeat never said anything about Cuban/Gilbert being better for the Tribe because they will spend more. In fact, I know that won't be the fucking case. Shut the fuck up and get off my dick.

Wut. I think he was responding to the other guy..

Yep. Was talking about the other guy.

And let's not pretend that anyone is going near your dick anytime soon.

I didn't read the quote and interpret it as "Gilbert can't afford to buy them" but took it as he didn't want to pay that much due to his experience with the Cavs franchise value taking a nose dive when LBJ left. Also, in regards to him buying the Cavs, at the time Gilbert bought the Cavs they had the best young player to come into the league since Kobe.

I'm pretty sure Gilbert can afford just about anything he wants, except a moon base, since his net worth as of Sept 2011 was estimated at 1.5 Billion $$$ ( http://www.forbes.com/profile/daniel-gilbert/ ) This net worth will only continue to grow once the casinos go live.

In the end Gilbert is still a businessman and I don't blame him for walking away if the asking price was too high and he thought he would be over paying for the franchise also showing you’re willing to walk away from a deal is the best tactic one can use in ongoing high level/ big money negations.

Lasagna, I'm not surprised. I haven't been on this site for awhile and just stumbled into this thread. Like you my info is word of mouth about selling the team (I have a post about this months ago) the Dolans want to a bare minimum to break even when they sell. I'm not sure that will happen in the near future given they bought at peak value and don't have the revenue or talent (assets) from the 90s.Until the Dolans are willing to sell the team at a loss, we're stuck with them
