Greg Monroe

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Man, I've been saying it's really hard to find a C that you can pair with Monroe. He needs someone to make up for his defensive deficiencies on one end but one who can also spread the floor on another.

If we believe Embiid really can be a reliable jump shooter, I wouldn't mind taking a look at Monroe and making him our PF.

He's a below the rim player without a jumpshot. Decent post game. He's pretty big, but not a bully. Not a good defender. I don't know why people want this guy... He's young??

He's an efficient low post scorer. HAven't had one of those in forever. He's bigger than the guys we have and better than the guys we have.

The weaknesses are obvious and because of them I haven't been on the bandwagon. But Embiid might be just the guy who can work next to Monroe.

Is he a stud low post player? Even if he is, I don't know that I want to sign a guy (to a likely large deal) just because he has multiple weaknesses that may finally be covered up by Embiid. It's not like Embiid having a jumper means we should look for a PF who doesn't have any semblance of one, and the same goes for playing D.

I'm not seeing how Embiid and Monroe compliment each other...

2 front court scorers with face up and post game ability. 1 potential all defensive teamer. I'd prefer a guy with three point range but Monroe fits.

82 games of Greg Monroe is better than 50 games of Varejao.

My thoughts exactly. I don't know why having one very talented player means we should slack in other areas. Why handcuff Embiid by making him cover up for Monroe's deficiencies?

Well, here's the thinking. He's going to be covering for Thompson's shooting deficiencies or Bennett's defensive and size deficiencies. And Monroe is better than both of those guys.

If Monroe were one of very few realistic and affordable options, I'd say okay let's give him a try. But given what type of salary he'll likely get, coupled with his numerous weaknesses, I'd much rather look elsewhere.

Well I'd like to see how much he gets offered.

10 million a year? I'd say jump all over that.

Ideally you'd want robert Horry. There's no one like that. Whoever we get is going to have warts. I'll take the guy who can drop the double double and is still coming into his prime.

Aren't Bennett's defense and size concerns one in the same? Regardless, he only has to cover each of them on one end of the court. With Monroe, you almost have to force one of them to be a jump shooter, and while Embiid may develop that into a strength, I don't think that's what anybody envisions his role being. I fear that you'd be forcing Embiid to play a style that isn't his own just to cover up for Monroe.

If we take Embiid, he fits absolutely perfectly with Bennett if Bennett pans out. If not, we could pair him with a lot of different PF's and have it work. Why give up assets and big $$$ for a one-dimensional guy like Monroe who would occupy the same floor space as Embiid?

That's a big if.
