Greg Monroe

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If we take Embiid, he fits absolutely perfectly with Bennett if Bennett pans out. If not, we could pair him with a lot of different PF's and have it work. Why give up assets and big $$$ for a one-dimensional guy like Monroe who would occupy the same floor space as Embiid?

I mean basically what oasis said. Ready to start moving on from if's into players we absolutely know can succeed at certain things.

We wouldn't even be giving Bennett any time to show us what he can do. We would basically have wasted the #1 pick from 2013. Not to mention Monroe doesn't fit with Embiid. They both thrive on the blocks and in the paint. They'd be in each other's way.

Not a fan of signing Monroe this summer. Would be a dumb move. Bennett's game literally fits perfectly with Embiid. Provides him the necessary floor spacing to operate down low.

Perry Ellis could play on the block and played well with Embiid. Monroe can also step out and shoot. Bennett is a bird in the bush. If he plays well we have trade options. If not we have a hole at the 4. Thompson is a bad fit with Embiid.

Monroe can't step out and shoot though

82games has him at 27% on jumpshots, but he looked to be getting better as the year went on. But assume Monroe makes no more progress and continues to play 60% of the time in the paint. Embiid has an inside outside game. I think Monroe is the best talent we could sign. Could be a josh smith scenario and not work out. I'd bet its enough to get us into the play offs and we can work out the kinks in the offseason. I'd be willing to bet one of Embiid and Monroe develops their face up game. That is a lot of offensive ability right there.

We have Bennett who projects to develop into a great offensive weapon. No need to get Monroe when he doesn't even fit the type of up-tempo team we're trying to build. I don't think there's any chance we look to sign him this off-season.

Who would you spend the cap space on then. I assume we're not carrying it over to next year.

Shit, I don't know. We don't need to spend just to spend though. If we don't find anyone we like willing to sign for a reasonable contract I have no problem saving our cap space. There are a couple guys in this thread that were interesting though:

Could even potentially look into trading for a vet too like Martell Webster, Gerald Green, or even Wilson Chandler. If Washington brings back Ariza I even think Otto Porter could become available.

I was waiting for Lance Stephenson. I don't expect the cream of the crop, but I suspect Gilbert is going all in on whoever he can get.

This is the year that the cap space gets spent. Kyrie's extension kicks in next offseason, eating up a lot of cap room with it. If the Cavs don't bring anyone in this year, they won't be bringing in anyone next summer either. We've used the, "well we can wait and sign guys next summer," excuse for a while now, but it can't be used after this summer. The team has to be built between now and opening night. There are no cap-space-based acquisitions after next season ends.

I want nothing to do with this guy. Let some other team overpay for him. Even if you discount his antics, how does a 4th ball-dominant guard work with this team?

I would attempt to poach/overpay Hayward before I make a sizable offer to Monroe.

Irving/Dellavedova
Waiters/Jack
Hayward/Karasev
Bennett/Thompson
Embiid/Varejao/Zeller

I'm still dreaming of some post play and Monroe is the best on the market. Age 24 he can grow with the young core. I like gortat but he's 30 and will decay as the core enters their prime. I'll be interested in who wins the bidding war.
