Greg Oden interview (plans to come back for 2013)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
One time, during college at OSU, my brother had a party and played with Greg Oden's girlfriend's boobies. True story.

thats odd because I imagine the chick dating an 8 foot tall nba athlete would be a nice christian girl.

Mike Conley Sr., agent for Greg Oden, says his client is interested in signing a free-agent deal with the Miami Heat.

Conley said that Oden may be ready to return to the court in December or January "as far as being effective and in shape."

Oden has appeared in just 82 career games since being selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft.

What an asshole.

Prolly the only team that would give him a contract though.

No way. Miami doesn't have enough cap space to spend on a guy who likely can never play again. You sign Oden and he gets hurt, Miami is lost. The guy can barely walk anymore...I just don't see anyone giving him a contract any time soon. It's sad to see him just try and get around normally at this point...his walking gait looks like a 60-70 year old man. All of the surgeries have left him looking like a washed up NBA retiree...If he can barely walk around, how does anyone expect him to get back on an NBA court?

Watch 20 seconds in...granted this was months ago, but his body just isn't equipped for professional basketball.

Shaun Livingston, Greg Oden, all these guys lots of fans have wanted over the years are falling out of the sky at minimum costs.

We have minutes to offer at no real risk. No title hopes on the line for the Cavs this year. Why not?

I'm guessing you mean millions, unless of course there's a 24 style countdown to Oden signing somewhere.

I agree, though. If he's coming back this year, give him a two-year deal with next year only partially guaranteed. I'd even overpay him a bit (relative to his worth, which is very low right now) to make sure he doesn't go somewhere else. We're probably going to be relatively quiet in free agency this summer, so we can afford to throw a bit of unguaranteed money at Oden for next year.

Told ya

"The Miami Heat are at the front of the line in pursuing Oden, two sources said, and have been keeping tabs as he recovers while also taking classes at Ohio State. Sources say that the Heat, though, are not alone in their pursuit of the former No. 1 overall pick. ESPN.com"

I don't want him, don't care if he's 30 or 24 years old. He's had multiple microfracture surgeries, knees are just about shot. I don't ever want to get as desperate for talent like the Minnesota Timberwolves. They signed Brandon Roy to a two-year, $10.4 million deal. So far, he's played a whopping total of 4 regular season games.

Sure, I feel bad for both Roy and Oden, but the reality of the situation is both of their careers are over. If both of them decide to make yet another comeback, there could be serious consequences for their health down the road.

There are multiple teams out there that will be interested in Oden, only way Cavs can make a run at Oden is to overpay. Well, ain't that the story of Cleveland sports.

Seems kinda like a good fit for Miami. They have the roster space to throw away on him and watch his progress. Plus, not many teams are willing to take the chance or need to take the chance, especially at a higher price, and Miami can only offer the min. And they are a good team that is still somehow terrible in the post, especially at center. The situation makes sense.

The second year of that contract is not guaranteed.

The way I see it is that it's not my money. The Cavs have salary cap space to spare and, if the rumors about holding on to cap space until the summer of 2014 are true, won't be going out of their way to use it this summer anyway. Why not give Oden a 2 year, 10 million contract with only the first year guaranteed? If he ends up not being able to play, big deal. We are five million closer to the salary floor that we have to hit anyway and we can cut him over the summer. If he is able to play, he's still making a reasonable amount.

I thought Roy's contract was fine. It was low risk because of the non-guaranteed second year. Sure he's overpaid this year, but who cares? If he had been able to play, that deal would have been a great value.

Greg Oden's situation is much different than Brandon Roy. Roy's knees have a degenerative problem with the cartilage...there's no fixing that. His knees just continue to deteriorate over time. Oden's knees have just been the victim of multiple unlucky injuries. Nothing is deteriorating, they're just worn down by surgeries. Doesn't mean he can't go on to have a successful career. Roy's condition insists that he cannot go on to have a successful career.

There's literally no downside to signing Oden on a deal with a team option. It's Dan Gilbert's money, not yours...and we are so far under the cap that it wouldn't even come CLOSE to limiting our flexibility. There is zero reason not to give him a shot. Zero. We can outbid Miami easily without overpaying...they barely have anything to offer.
