Released by Blazers....why not pick him up? Gilbert has the cash to give this guy time to get healthy (if possible).

I feel like getting him back on Buckeye soil would do him well. I would let Greg sit out an entire season if it meant finally getting him on the basketball court. I question the state of his knees, but even if he plays a five year career he could be a difference maker down low. If the price is right, sign me up. Can't be worse than Semih or Hollins

Unless his knees are totally shot , it would be a good PR move if he EVER makes it back

HOWEVER my feeling is the Blazers would have held onto him if he had anything left

Is he free to sign with anyone on a new contract?

Sure... if you can get him on a minimum deal. Oden with no knees is still a massive upgrade on Hollins.

Sign me up...even if he wears a suit, he'd give us better production than Hollins

Can we sign free agents, no matter that trade deadline passed?

Yeah, if he's waived he's free to sign where ever he likes whenever he likes. It'd be smart for the Cavs to buy while his stock is low. I doubt it happens. Oden would be wise to wait until he's healthy to sign with a team. A heathier Oden is worth more than his current state.

Plus his contract is guaranteed. I may be wrong, but I believe if he signs with a team before his contract is officially over he forgos the remainder of his current deal.

There really is no downside to bringing him in and giving it a shot, especially for a rebuilding team. If he gets hurt again, you just cut him.

His current contract was for 1.5 mill....Even if you pay him whatever he's owed this season or alittle more and a contract for another year or two, it is well worth the risk.

Sign him, set him up with the Cleveland Clinic, and let them do their magic. :)

Would love to bring Oden back to Ohio, where he belongs. New scenery and back home might do him well, certainly couldn't hurt considering what we have at center. If he gets and stays healthy, he could be our center for a while.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to suggest it. But nobody is going to play Oden, so why would anyone take Portland off that hook. I think we wait and see if he recovers..

The Cavs signed Leon Powe when he was coming off a major surgery and were okay with him sitting out the entire season and just recovering.

I'd support this move. Hollins, Erden, and Samuels are likely gone after this season. That gives us Varejao (who probably should be playing PF to extend his career anyways) as our C. Need a big man. Even if he needs a year to get back together fully, I would still do it. Draft another C this summer.

Totally against a possible Oden signing... even if he gets somewhat healthy (which is doubtful), imo he would be a bad fit and would slow down our fast paced team... hopefully there is a decent center available with the Lakers pick
