Greg Popovich Appreciation Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Stern is awesome...in a Vince McMahon sort of way. I'm going to miss the entertainment value when he's gone.

Pop is the man, from his genius coaching to his 2 word answers to media questions during games, absolute boss.

To fine the Spurs or Gregg Popovich would be ridiculous and pure ignorant of Stern and the league in general.

Its understandable to want to watch the stars play each other, but in my opinion save it for the playoffs where it actually matters. Pop has done this for several years now in terms of resting his key guys on long road trips or on short weeks when the team plays a handful of games. To fine a team/coach for doing what they felt is right with their team is ludicrous.

Just goes to show how much the league values these superstar teams, and how much they want to milk them dry. Nothing else really matters..

Just goes to show Stern cares soley about ratings and everything else is a distant second. Grown ass man throwing a hissy fit over this? And no one thinks he would manipulate games through refs?

this man is amazing

Well played.

Is Stern going to answer to the fact that teams rest their stars frequently at the end of the season to prepare for the playoffs? Are those tickets any less valuable to the fans that bought them just because it's game 81 instead of game 25? Fuck off Stern. You have no business telling a HOF coach how to run his team, especially when your league showed them zero consideration with how the schedule fell.

You Stern bashers better be careful what you wish for... cause next up is Deputy Dawg Silver!

Seriously, Stern has got the whole little man with a lot of power Napoleon thing all figured out... he has completely sold out to merchandise sales and tv revenue. The league is his and he'll do whatever the money tells him to do.

Personally I think the season is too compressed and the playoff season is too long. Those things, like playing 4 games in 6 nights etc., are really the items that should be addressed in the player's union contract... as much if not moreso the revenue splits. There is no way the number of games in a season will be reduced, nor will the playoff format be shortened because of the first point... it would affect the tv revenue.

I understand that... but as a fan, I don't like it when the Cavs are running on fumes like in Dec with I think they have six or seven home/away back-to-backs and in April I think they have six games in nine days... all the teams have the same kind of crap... but that doesn't make it ok. And the playoff season is brutally long.... but there is no way they'd reduce the eligible teams or shorten the series.

Ok... that being said and that I am in support of teams protecting their players.... If Stern really wanted to send a message to Pops and SA... here's what I think he should do. First off, he should not have said anything public. He has opened himself to public outcry in support of Pops. He shoulda kept his comments and the fine behind the scenes. Word will quickly get around to the other teams and players. Then, he should fine the San Antonio organization $1,000,000. Not Popovich... the team owners. Let that trickle down in whatever way it does. To some teams, one million dollars is significant. Again the key is that it is all behind the public eye. You cost us tv ratings, you gonna pay. That or it will cost you draft choices. You hurt our tv product, I'm gonna hurt you. David Napoleon has spoken.

Both sides have legit claims in this "dispute". Sterns job is to look out for the best interest of the league and it would be a bad situation if teams just started randomly sitting 3,4,5 of their best players.

Pop however doesnt and shouldnt care what road fans, media outlets think about the matter. His job is to win Championships and this is the way he thinks it should be done. (Mind you it hasnt been successful recently)

It would be foolish to punish someone for violating a rule that hasn't been created yet. So he would better served to sit with the competition committee and drum up a consensus on how to handle this quite unhandle-able situation

You forgot to insert an "L" after the four "a's"

So glad to see I didn't even have to go to page two to see the thumbs up Pops gif. Keep up the good work guys!
