Greg Popovich Appreciation Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I think the players are 100 percent behind Pops on this one. Hence Miami was not about to blow out the guys that showed up. If there is any action, it should come through the players. Logic is that the coach determines a player is a t risk of injury due to the compressed schedule, and decides to rest them, but the League is fining him into a decision that puts players at risk.

This is one of the stupidest moves by any league commissioner I can remember.

I'm not sure that it has been mentioned in this thread, but the majority of the talking heads on ESPN keep saying that coaches need to do what is best for the NBA and not what is best for their team and thus the fine is warranted. What they all seem to be neglecting to mention is that at the end of the season; coaches will have to answer to the owner of their team and not to David Stern for how their teams performed. So unless Stern is going to be protecting coaches' jobs at the end of the season; he shouldn't be able to fine teams for their personnel decisions (which is obvious, but apparently not obvious enough to mention).

I just caught Jalen Rose saying that it was right for Pop to be fined to preserve the integrity of the game. Fuck your stupid argument. The game was a testament of how a team with mediocre talent can play a pure basketball game and compete with a much talented team. That is a cause for celebration to basketball fans and not something to be fined off.

I hope Pop does it again soon just to tell David Stern that he really doesn't give an F about him.

It's not OK for players to be rested because it taints the game? However, it's OK for players to be forming super teams and that doesn't hurt the game? Makes zero sense...

Nobody makes up rules as they go along quite like the NBA and Stern. He says it was a "Disservice to the game and our fans"... ?

@BillSimmons
Disservices (Stern) didn't mention: 16-game lockout; N.O. getting #1 pick, all "4 road games in 5 nights" trips; 1st CP3 trade; Sonics; Donaghy.

Check and Mate.

Of course Bill Simmons didn't mention The Decision because he rides LeBron's dick.

That has nothing to do with David Stern.

Why not? He interferes with other things for competitive balance. If he was so concerned of competitiveness in the game he would have blocked the decision or set serious sanctions against Riley and Heat.

So umm who's going to make the David Stern appreciation thread?

We may not like him, but he has done some great things for the NBA, and I actually kind of like the character that David Stern plays on TV. He's like Paul Heyman, only funny.

Its easy. Free agents are free, hence the word FREE in the name. If free agents don't have a right to where they want to go, then why doesn't David Stern just make the NBA slavery so when you sign up he controls everything you do for the rest of your life. I didn't think that would need explaining, but that isn't even close to being the same thing as this.
