gun control

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do you guys really live in that kind of fear on a day to day basis?

Fuck conceal/carry, you should just walk around with your gun drawn all day everyday with that kind of fear.

No offense taken. Your opinion is worth about as much as your defense against an armed intruder....not much ;)

Meh. Don't know too many burglars itching to break into a home with a 90-pound German Shepherd (and a 70 pound Boxer, although he's admittedly less threatening), so it's not really something I concern myself with.

And I am genuinely happy for you. And I wish that you and everyone else would never have to use a weapon to defend themselves. Good luck to you.

Just remember, if you take away guns...people hell bent on violence will still find a way to be violent. By using a knife, or a stick, or a spatula.

"I know I'd be just as scared by an active madman carrying a knife as I would of a guy with a Bushmaster .223," said no one ever.

Is there anyone else who is in favor of teachers being able to carry weapons with some kind of protocol you think they should use. I know Frank threw out a scenrio and BigMar says conceal carry would work.

Any other thoughts out there on an effective way to implement guns in school for protection?

As I said in the other thread, I think that would be a great idea until the first time a teacher snaps and guns down a student, which I can pretty much guarantee you would happen within a year (and that's being optimistic).

And look, I'm not saying I think that all (or even more than a few) teachers would snap like that, or that the same teachers would actively bring a gun to school with the intent of killing a student or students. What I am saying is that giving them a loaded gun in the classroom is a recipe for them to one day get pissed, snap, and use it on the kids they are supposed to possess the gun to protect.

There's a big difference between actively bringing a gun to a school with the intent to kill and having a loaded gun in your desk and using it in a moment of anger. One takes a certain kind of psychopath, the other simply requires seeing red for a few seconds and doing something incredibly stupid.

There are no sensible, effective ways to introduce guns into teachers hands and expecting violence not to go up.

No, not at all. I will admit I am a little overprotective when it comes to my family though. Events like the Conn shooting remind me how many sick human beings there are out there. I was just pointing out that your idea that we are safer now because we are a "modern society" is absurd. If anything, our dependence on electricity has made us more vulnerable than ever. I didn't create the EMP Commission, our government did...are they just being paranoid? I didn't create our 16T in debt or start talking about the "fiscal cliff" on a daily basis, our government did. They seem to think both are a threat.

Do I think my house will ever catch on fire? No...but I own fire extinguishers. Do I think society will collapse from a terrorist attack or financial collapse? No...but I should be able to own a lot of weapons if it does.

Especially agree here.

I figure with what has happened, it's worth talking about. I'm interested in saving lives as all of you are. So everything needs to be weighed here.

You'd be just as dead.

Its a joke man, chill the fuck out. Even if its a bad one, still, chill the fuck out.

Very chilled over here...you're the one swearing at everyone, chill the fuck out. :)

I think my point is the reason it's not feasible and will never happen. All it takes is one teacher to fuck up to ruin an idea like that for every other teacher in the country, and that's just not a risk worth taking in my opinion.

Really? I like my chances to win a fight alot better. Not sure about you.

Ever heard the term "don't bring a knife to a gun fight."

Same principle applies. Knives are far less dangerous than guns, arguing otherwise is the furthest thing from a valid point.

No one is arguing that.
