So what did Homogrin have to say at this presser?

They aired it on NFL Network so I was able to watch. His main points:

  • The team did not properly diagnose McCoy with a concussion and did not run concussion tests on the sideline. - This is key because it contradicts what Shurmur had originally told the media.
  • The team trainers and coaches did not initially see the hit or realize it was as serious as it was.
  • They evaluated his hand and Colt assured coaches he was ready to go back in.
  • Emphasized several times that neither Colt, nor any other player or coach on the team suggested to Shurmur that McCoy may have a head injury.
  • Claims that Colt did not complain about any possible head injury until after the game and after showering. He only brought it to a team doctor's attention right before the press conference.
  • Some concussion tests were then administered but were inconclusive at that time.
  • McCoy took part in post game interviews with dim lighting as per doctor's request.
  • More tests were then conducted and he was diagnosed with a concussion - at which point doctors gave him specific orders not to watch tv, read, etc. - precautionary measures.
  • Holmgren acknowledged that this timeline and description of events did not coincide with what Colt and his father had originally told the media.
  • He also claims that he has not yet spoken to Colt and is unsure why the McCoys' story differed.

If you want my honest opinion, it looked as though Holmgren was covering Shurmur's ass. It also appeared that there may be a rift between McCoy and Holmgren at this point. Holmgren's body language suggested that deep down he may think McCoy lied about not remembering the last few plays to, again, cover his own ass for being sacked in the red zone and throwing a game-ending pick.

Just my opinion.

Edit: Found the video - If you don't feel like watching the full 5.5 minute video, the main points are above. The video cuts it short, as well.

Agree on most. Only one that I will point out that I extremely disagree with is Rubin. Guy has 63 tackles which ranks 1st in the NFL for ALL defensive lineman. What more could you expect from the guy? The guy is easily the most underrated Browns player and probably one of the most underrated players in the NFL in general.

But until we get a franchise QB, we will be mediocre or worse.

Agreed. I think we SERIOUSLY have to consider picking a QB with our first No. 1. RGIII is who I am dying to have (obviously). Just have to lose out and hope Miami and Washington win 1 more.

Presser on STO right now.

Edit: They only showed the beginning. Guess we have to listen to Bruce and his unintelligent callers babble before we see the rest.

I think Rubin started off well, but he has been extremely quiet the past 5 or 6 games. The opposing teams game plan is to run the ball down our throats and they have been pretty successful at it. His numbers will be inflated because our opponents run the ball on average 25% more against the Browns (only Indy has had more attempts against). The Browns are 31th in run defense. While we can't put all the blame on his shoulders, he is suppose to be the anchor to this line.

Grossi is much better at stomping his foot and getting worked up about controversy than writing.

People are really starting to overrate the defense. Its easy to have a highly ranked defense yards wise when the other team is winning the whole game and in control. They get run on at will and the Browns won't ever be able to win with a defense like that. Holmgren sounded really angry and you can never win these things when you are pissed like that. The Honeymoon is officially over in Cleveland. Next year this regime is gonna be put through the ringer, if they think the city is going to wait until year 5 to make a playoff push, they don't know shit about Cleveland.

And for people bitching about the media, you think New York, Boston, Phili media would put up with this?

Honestly, Lerner better man up and keep this regime around for longer than this. If we fire Holmgren and Heckert after only 3 years because this city is crying yet again then he, as an owner, never deserves a winning product.

We can't win shit if we are constantly kicking people out the door. At least this time we have serious football guys in the front office. More to the point if we fire two well respected guys around the league, who the hell would want to come here that's even worth having?
