Hibbert is getting shopped really hard. Pacers offered him for Dragic, but the Suns rejected it. They are trying to trade him for Greg Monroe too, which maybe could happen considering Monroe wants out of Detroit, but Drummond or Hibbert are neither PF's at all, so I'm not sure that would work out.
I know he has got a lot of hate lately, and he played pretty bad last year, but I still think he could be a very good player. He showed flashes over the last 3 years of how good he can be. I feel like last year was an anomaly.
I would love him on this team, especially beside Kevin Love, but his contract is just a little too rich for my blood. I'd rather it be a couple million dollars less, even though he is about the going rate for a center and its probably fair money (when he is playing like he is capable). I'd just wish it was more like 12 million as opposed to 15 million. The big of the future we are looking for I imagine will be in the 10-15 mil range anyway. But if we could get him under contract, and then convince him to take more like 12 mil a year, but on a long term deal, I would love that.
We have a few options of how we could get him if we wanted. Haywood if we waited, but I think he will be gone before this season if Pacers had their way. So maybe Tristan, Haywood, and the unguaranteeds? Or trade the unguaranteeds for a player in the 5 mil range (like Barea's expiring), and then trade Barea and Tristan (and pick?) for Hibbert. I think salary would match on that. Or trade Andy's contract and another piece for Hibbert is the easiest financially and probably what the Pacers would prefer, but I don't see us giving up Andy. I bet we would even be willing to possibly trade Dion for him to be honest. Mostly because it is so hard to get a quality big like Hibbert, and Dion is pretty replaceable. Not saying I would, but we have options. This is a good time to buy low, and even giving up Dion is probably buying low.
All I'm saying is, a Love-Hibbert tandem down low would be perfect. Hibbert doesn't have to be "the guy" so I think he would be fine, and he can just concentrate on being a defensive presence and cleaning the glass.
I'm not sure what the Pacers direction is or if they view us as a "rival" and won't trade with us, but opportunities like this is what we need to scoop in and take advantage of. I'm guessing that the Pacers are definitely going in tank mode, and I'm guessing Hibbert doesn't want to be there anymore and requested a trade. Part of Hibbert's struggles on the court I think came from some chemistry/off the court issues as well with his teammates, so maybe all he needs is a change of scenery.
